À propos de cet audio
A groundbreaking Latinx Aliens novel by a rising star Latina author, featuring the fan-favorite character PFC Jenette Vasquez from the hit movie Aliens and the family she is forced to leave behind
Even before the doomed mission to Hadley’s Hope on LV-426, Jenette Vasquez had to fight to survive. Born to an immigrant family with a long military tradition, she looked up to the stars, but life pulled her back down to Earth—first into a street gang, then prison. The Colonial Marines proved to be Vasquez’s way out—a way that forced her to give up her twin children. Raised by Jenette’s sister, those children, Leticia and Ramon, had to discover their own ways to survive. Leticia by following her mother’s path into the military, Ramon into the corporate hierarchy of Weyland-Yutani. Their paths would converge on an unnamed planet which some see as a potential utopia, while others would use it for highly secretive research. Regardless of whatever humans might have planned for it, however, Xenomorphs will turn it into a living hell.

I couldn’t finish it…
It’s rare that I don’t finish an audiobook, and as a devoted Aliens fan I took it as far as I could, which was around 2/3 of the way.
Despite the weak writing and jumpy plot line, I kept waiting for some good xenomorph content that just never arrived.
I might have waited/suffered a bit longer were it not for the TERRIBLE narrator.
Yes, she clearly has a Latin background which is critical in paying homage to Vasquez.
However, her reading was awful in so many different ways: painfully monotonous in tone, she sounded tired most of the time, her male voices sounded like female robots, and don’t even get me started on how badly she butchered a British accent. Her performance made bad writing intolerable.
Obviously avoid this one.

Really not worth a read or a listening
I have difficulty understanding how this book found a publisher. The story is mostly about the daughter of Aliens' Vasquez and her twin brother: the Aliens encounters are few and far between, except in the last part of the book. That would not have matter if the character building had not been so weak (almost two dimensional) and if their personal story had been more interesting (and better written). Dialogues are full of clichés and sound artificial - especially in action/combat situation. However, there are some interesting ideas regarding the Aliens and their "weaponization". But the performance is atrocious - so bad I thought it was done by A.I. The narrator does not seem to master the different intonations that goes with punctuation or when expressing different feelings (let's leave it at that). Do not waste a credit on this book.

a no point, b badly written c reader is monotone to the point you want to scream. d forced, it's clear they are starting to go through the characters looking for stories. as bad as what they did to Star wars.

Gave up 80 percent done.
I really tried to make it through this one but I really couldn't. One of only 2 audiobooks I've ever quit listening to.
the narrator is so monotone and unexpressive I thought it might be an AI. The story is boring and the characters are all unlikable. the book is weirdly horny for an Alien book. And speaking of aliens, where are they? the xenonorphs barely appear. And to top it all off, the story isn't even about the Vasquez character from the film. It's about her children, which were never even hinted at in the movie. Terrible. Skip this one. No wonder audible is giving it away for free.
