Description

Must read for any historian
This book is a must read for any historian interested in this era. It paints an incredible picture of the futility and brutality of war at the individual level. There’s a reason Hitler and the Nazis had it banned and publicly burned as “unpatriotic.”

Great Narration
Although the writing style reflects early 20th century Europe, I found the passion and intonation in the narrator's made this an interesting listen and really emphasized the horrors and loss of hope during war.

Numbing narrative: you will not regret listening to this book.
So sad that mankind has not learned from history and especially from the very real and humble accounts of front line soldiers. This book is numbing. It makes the listener want to shout to the world ‘what the hell is wrong with everyone! ‘

A must listen for any war reader
Very relaxing voice to listen to. Almost to relaxing as I often feel asleep. my favorite chapter was 11 as it really wrapped up the whole experience and put things in perspective. I will definitely buy the book to add to my collection to read again.

The Realities of War
Just a great story that details many aspects of the realities of war through a lens not often considered, Thoroughly enjoyed the recording, but had to speed it up to 2.0 because of long pauses and slow narration.

Brutal
This book takes away any and all glorification of war. It's brutal, disturbing and emotionally charged.
This isn't the type of book I normally listen to but I wanted to listen to some of the classics.
Narration is extremely slow so I sped it up and it moved along at a good pace.
If you want reality then listen to this. I highly recommend it.
