Description
New York Times and USA Today best-selling author S.L. Scott brings the charm and romance, smiles and laughs to Along Came Charlie. This friends-to-more novel is packed with heartfelt emotion reminiscent of the best of chick lit of the past with a modern twist for today’s audiences.
I’ll be your date, and you’ll be mine. Who says a funeral can’t be romantic?
Okay, everyone. Including myself.
That doesn’t stop the rumor mill from turning when I show up with a beautiful redhead on my arm.
That redhead also just happens to be a stranger, relatively speaking. Charlotte Barrow and I have run into each other a few times—on the subway, at a bar, and now on our way to separate funerals. Instead of the prodigal son who let his parents down showing up alone, I traded favors and brought a date. The deal made sense at the time. You be my date, and I’ll be yours. Who knew bringing a date to your ex-fiancé’s funeral would cause such a stir?
Technically, I did.
I invited him anyway for moral support. It didn’t hurt that he was handsome.
The coldhearted stares that greeted us didn’t matter. We found comfort in each other and formed a friendship from there. Charles Adams was nothing like my ex. The pressure wasn’t there to be anyone other than who I was. He also loved my cupcakes as much as I enjoyed his company.
I always dreamed of finding my soul mate, and then along came Charlie. My perfect match was right here all along. Did I realize it too late?

I Felt All The Feels Listening To This Story
ALONG CAME CHARLIE by S.L. Scott is an endearing story with a meet-cute beginning, a long slow-burning middle, and ultimately, a happy ever after. This one features two Charlies, just to keep you on your toes. Listening to the audible version made it easy to keep the POV's straight, and you shouldn't have too much trouble in the written version either.
Charlotte (Charlie) Barrow isn't looking for love, but somehow it finds her. When meeting number one derails because of Charlotte's loyalty to a friend, she's left wondering about the handsome stranger who made her "feel" for the first time in months. Charles (Charlie) Adams also gets the tingles when he first sees Charlotte, but as that meeting derails and they go their separate ways, fate steps in to make sure our couple isn't left to wander this earth sad and alone forever.
The slow-burn part of this story is where our couple gets to know one another, confide some of their fears and realities, while the sexual tension builds. Charlotte's trust issues are warranted but prove to be too much, and Charles, being the gentleman he is, decides to let fate have her own way. The way Charles is so supportive of Charlotte and sees what she needs both warmed my heart and tore it apart. Parts of this story really hit you where it counts.
Their romance is kind of real; something you envision really happening, but the waiting for these two to get their acts together is kind of a killer. In the end, the book held my attention, kept me interested in what would happen next, and I thoroughly enjoyed the "Charlies".
This is a re-publishing of one of the author's earlier works. I enjoyed noticing the different writing styles between the years. Charles' job as an author and the story he is writing throughout this book, is another little tidbit that made me smile, especially when Charlotte gets to read it and realizes it's all about them.
The audible version is narrated by Jason Clarke and Callie Dalton; two new narrators for me. I enjoyed their voices and the way they each portrayed the characters. In the beginning, I felt the male voice sounded older than the twenty-seven-year-old Charles, but I came around quickly and became absorbed in the story. I'm glad I chose to listen to this one!
