À propos de cet audio
Discover the classic thriller that launched the #1 detective series and is the inspiration for the original series Cross on Prime Video!
Alex Cross is a homicide detective with a Ph.D. in psychology. He works and lives in Southeast D.C. and looks like Muhammad Ali in his prime. He's a tough guy from a tough part of town who wears Harris Tweed jackets and likes to relax by banging out Gershwin tunes on his baby grand piano. But he also has two adorable kids of his own, and they are his own special vulnerabilities.
Jezzie Flanagan is the first woman ever to hold the highly sensitive job as supervisor of the Secret Service in Washington. Blond, mysterious, seductive, she's got an outer shell that's as tough as it is beautiful. She rides her black BMW motorcycle at speeds of no less than 100 mph. What is she running from? What is her secret?
Alex Cross and Jezzie Flanagan are about to have a forbidden love affair-at the worst possible time for both of them. Because Gary Soneji, who wants to commit the "crime of the century," is playing at the top of his game. Soneji has outsmarted the FBI, the Secret Service, and the police. Who will be his next victim?
Gary Soneji is every parent's worst nightmare. He has become Alex Cross's nightmare. And now, he's about to become yours.

Robotic narration
I enjoy James Patterson which is why I chose this book, but I almost had to stop listening because of the terrible, robotic, unimaginative narration. By far the worst of all the books I’ve listened to!

Another enjoyable read from Patterson
Although I enjoyed the story quite a bit, I think part of the problem may have been in the narration. Although I love Taye Diggs as an actor, I don't think reading audio books is where he shines. His voice really didn't change as the characters spoke. It was difficult at times to tell who was speaking & whether they were speaking out loud or if it was a character's thoughts or if it was just the story being told. I got lost a few times, perhaps there were too many characters. So I did find myself having to go back in the book a few times. I found the author's use of the phrase “Soneji slash Murphy” really annoying after about the 30th time he said it! If you can over look a few of these issues I think you will enjoy the story.

Appropriately Celebrated Crime Thriller
This book is a well-contrived/well-executed Police Procedural (there's no mystery - we "know" who the killer is early on.. although the twists at the end are jawdropping). James Patterson introduces an iconic sleuth: Detective/Psychologist Alex Cross. The story follows the hunt & capture of a fascinating child abductor who may be a genuine Multiple Personality. At the same time, Patterson explores the personal development of a Black single father/workaholic crimefighter (an intriguing character). The book melds the two plotlines remarkably well, providing a fast-paced, screenplay-quality tale that includes psychological suspense, courtroom intrigue, and occasional violent action. 'Along Came A Spider' is a legitimate page-turner.
I actually didn't find the narration from Taye Diggs *brutal*. Charges that his character voice repertoire is limited are fair (every character sounds the same in dialogue)
..and I wouldn't describe his reading as "robotic", but he has a cadence that reminds the listener that he's clearly reading out loud (rather than performing the story). That said, his diction, timbre, and tone are respectable, Hachette Audio does a nice job with technical support, and setting playback speed at 1.20X corrects for some of the deficiencies in Diggs's reading.
This book likely merits 9.5/10 stars, but a subpar performance brings down my rating of this audiobook iteration to 8 stars out of 10. It's still well worth a listen (you are justified in spending time and money on it), but the best way to enjoy this exemplary 90s Mystery-Thriller is undoubtedly with a text copy (eBook or Paper).

Good psychopath story
The chapters bounce around a bit so it can be a little confusing but the story overall is solid. Definitely entertaining for a suspense theme.

just ok
I love James Patterson's Alex Cross series. My reason for fewer stars is that I couldn't find the narrator's voice intriguing. He just seemed monotone to me. This is the first audio book I've not enjoyed.
