A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. After 9/11, he was thrust onto the front lines of the War on Terror, and soon found his calling as a world-class sniper who performed best under fire. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war - of twice being shot and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends.
American Sniper also honors Kyle's fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyle's wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris.

excellent
I thought when I watched the movie that it covered all the aspects about Chris Kyle that I needed to know I was very mistaken and enjoyed every aspect of this book

Insightful
I left with a different look at war and the people in it. The movie was nothing like this book, definitely worth a read. One thing I took from it was the attitude of this man, It reminded me of when I was a Firefighter, your worst fear is missing a good one and not being there with your buddies.. not the job itself,, Fire calls aren't actually trying to kill you though, just a bad situation that needs to be resolved... The mindset to go to war and be happy about it and be bored when not engaging is something I hadn't considered. There were parts of this book that were great and parts that kinda made me question things like their empathy when (shooting fish in a bucket). *You'll know once you read it what I'm talking about.. I guess being in that mindset is completely different than what we're used to.. Great read

What a book
I remember watching the movie trailer when a friend said it was based off a book. Took a while but finally got around to reading/ listening to it and what a read/ listen it was. Recommend it to everyone.
