Hearing that the British Red Cross were recruiting truck drivers to deliver relief supplies in the active conflict zones of the former Yugoslavia, Roger thought the work sounded interesting. What he experienced during his mission with the International Committee of the Red Cross proved to be much more. Living the realities of humanitarian relief work and witnessing the tragedies of what war could do and did to its civilian victims, was life-changing.

A humbling story, based on true events.

The inevitability of war is difficult to grasp, and even more difficult to tell, as I assume. Roger does an excellent job of bringing humour into certain moments of his experience without diluting the severity of events, and his as well as others responsibilities as a ICRC delegate. It is quite a moving story and a wonderful tribute for all involved.

A True Humanitarian Adventure

Roger Fowlers voice comes through in this audio book of his memoir as a humanitarian worker in the Yugoslav wars. The tempo keeps the reader engaged. It’s a hard book to put on pause. Very well and authentically narrated.
