À propos de cet audio

Mikhail Sholokhov’s groundbreaking epic novel gives a sweeping depiction of Russian life and culture in the early 20th century. In the same vein as War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy, And Quiet Flows the Don gives listeners a glimpse into many aspects of Russian culture, and the choices a country makes when faced with war and destruction.

Great, but where's the rest?

This story of the Don Cossacks in the early 20th century is an interesting and realistic look at the time and place which I was not familiar to. Sholokhov describes small interactions between characters and larger world changing events coming together to give the reader an encompassing account of the moods and feelings of a small community at a particularly radical time of Russian history. I especially love how he presents crowds, as the listener gets only snippets of conversations. Stefan Rudnicki is an amazing narrator and heightened the story with his iconic Russian oktavist voice which is both deep and rich. However, the reason I gave it an 2 stars overall was that it was only half the story! This is an epic, with the second part being The Don Flows Home to the Sea. I was thinking this audiobook was going to end with the first part, but no! This is only HALF of the first part and there is no mention that the story continues. Where's the rest? is all I am left with asking.
