À propos de cet audio
The spellbinding true story of Anne Perry, her friend Pauline Parker, and the brutal crime they committed in the name of friendship.
On June 22, 1954, teenage friends Juliet Hulme - better known as best-selling mystery writer Anne Perry - and Pauline Parker went for a walk in a New Zealand park with Pauline’s mother, Honora. Half an hour later, the girls returned alone, claiming that Pauline’s mother had had an accident. But when Honora Parker was found in a pool of blood with the brick used to bludgeon her to death close at hand, Juliet and Pauline were quickly arrested, and later confessed to the killing. Their motive? A plan to escape to the United States to become writers, and Honora’s determination to keep them apart. Their incredible story made shocking headlines around the world and would provide the subject for Peter Jackson’s Academy Award-nominated film, Heavenly Creatures.
A sensational trial followed, with speculations about the nature of the girls’ relationship and possible insanity playing a key role. Among other things, Parker and Hulme were suspected of lesbianism, which was widely considered to be a mental illness at the time. This mesmerizing book offers a brilliant account of the crime and ensuing trial and shares dramatic revelations about the fates of the young women after their release from prison. With penetrating insight, this thorough analysis applies modern psychology to analyze the shocking murder that remains one of the most interesting cases of all time.

Fascinating. Loved it!
I have been fascinated with this story since watching the movie 'Heavenly Creatures' ages ago. The 2 girls remind me of me and my best childhood friend.
I consider that I am quite knowledgeable with words but this book has words that even I don't understand, which I love. I love learning new words.
The books covers everything. It gives the entire story with so many details I never knew before. It goes in depth into the background of everyone in the story and also tells the aftermath of everyone in the story. It tells about where the girls are now and how they went on with their lives. I absolutely loved it.
The narrator was pretty good. He does pronounce names of places and people slightly weirdly, but overall, no complaints from me.

Interesting Story, terrible narration
I had to speed up the narration at times so it did not sound computer generated. I would have stopped listening, yet the strength of the story pushed me forward.

couldn't listen to it
I tried to speed up the narration like a reviewer suggested, but still this was not enjoyable for me and I gave up almost right away.

Dreadful reader ok book
It is a gripping story however the reader was beyond dreadful. I think one could have asked almost anyone at random in the subway station to read this book and it would have been a more bearable Listening experience.

Interesting story, horrible reading.
The narration was horrendous - incredibly stilted. He reads like someone learning to read, no fluency which completely detracted from the story. The story itself is interesting (I have read many Anne Perry books) but there was a lot of background information I found didn’t add to the overall story and just meant there was more unpleasant listening.
