After defending his fledgling realm against the undead lord Gaja Katar all winter long, Count Minalan of the Magelaw faces a new threat in the spring: the Nemovort Shakathet, favored of Korbal, leading the mighty hordes out of the Penumbra. This time, Minalan faces a real strategist; one who drives his armies with purpose and efficiency. The road to war leads through Megelin Castle and the vulnerable lands to the south of Vanado. Old enemies will become allies, and old friends will become valuable assets.

War, however, is not what is preoccupying Minalan; the knowledge of the end of the world is. As he broods on existential issues and debates with various goddesses and Alka Alon about Calidore’s fate, he must overcome his own fears and anxieties and impose order on the situation before everything goes into the chamber pot.

The solution? Hire an Arcanist, a specialist in the obscure and trivial, to organize and investigate the many matters Minalan has to manage and bring them to order.

Editor needs some assistance

This series has enjoyable character interactions, good character growth, and is quite the addictive and intriguing story, but there are errors in this series that start to come more in the later books. while this book didn't really mix up the names of personal tools and weapons as some have, this book has a chapter (or at least segment) out of order. One god is mentioned, who we haven't met yet, and had an event occur with her, then a thief shows up with no mention before hand. In the following chapters the main character then meets the god for the first time, and then asks a vassal to bring him a thief. I do love this series, but I feel like another editor to assist in the work would help immensely.

Absolutely Addictive

Great book!

The only thing I found wrong with it was the length is shorter then most of the others and its quite depressing 😕

love it but dear God... please end the story...

my only beef is that there are so many plot points it feels like it will never come to a end... I guess I'll find out how this end in book 32...

Another great listen

My favourite series on Audible. I find myself listening during work travel and for falling asleep. Quite often I must back listen to find at what point I fell asleep at . Most enjoyable

The Series once started you won't stop

Great in depth story telling. T.M= LEGENDARY STORY WEAVER. J.L > >>= MASTER TELLER .

There isn't one book in this series that isn't spectacular. Each book is worth it's wieght in gold. I'm so glad i found this series and can't wait for the next books.

I'm an avid listener, I don't tend to write reviews. Enough said!

Plot progression is crawling but still great

Like many epic fantasies the plot progression has slowed to a crawl in many ways as the world expands and threats are not fully resolved while new threats and plots get added to the pile. That said I'll happily read next story so as long as you can deal with that its another safe bet

performance as in all up to this point was again fantastic
