The Rise of a Prophet. The Fall of a City. The Thrilling Conclusion of the Rise of Daniel…
Daniel’s meteoric rise in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court is a two-edged sword. Yahweh has greatly blessed Daniel and his friends, and they have found much favor in the eyes of the Babylonian king, but it has come at a cost. Daniel has made powerful enemies who seek to destroy him and any influence he has over the king of Babylon. Dark forces are moving into position around Daniel. Envious men want nothing more than to see him and his friends dead. And on the plains of Dura, a mighty statue is being erected, a monument to a false god, but if allowed to remain, it will certainly see Daniel and his friends utterly destroyed—for all who do not bow in worship before it will surely die. For the king of Babylon, threats to his kingdom cause him great alarm.
Nebuchadnezzar’s vision of his kingdom’s fall looms largest in his mind. He desperately seeks a way to thwart this prophecy, and the golden statue on the Dura plain is central to his plan. But conspiracy and rebellion rise everywhere. Hebrew prophets predict a speedy fall to Babylon. King Zedekiah seeks an alliance with Egypt and other nations to throw off the yoke of Chaldean bondage. And within Nebuchadnezzar’s own court, sedition, treason, and revolt sit at his right hand. To this end, the king pits his wrath and pride against his own fate. In Judah, Jeremiah the prophet tries one last time to prevent the utter destruction of Jerusalem, but more than physical obstacles are arrayed against him.
Spiritual battles will determine Jerusalem’s fate, and Jeremiah is caught in it like a leaf in a mighty hurricane. There is a chance, a tiny one. But the God of Israel’s wrath has risen to overflow the land—and the line of King David is threatened. If his line ends, then what of the coming Messiah? Daniel stands at the heart of it all. The future may well be determined by this one man.
