À propos de cet audio
Captain Sabine Fleischer is a skilled and dedicated US Army surgeon deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan. She is also one of the thousands of troops who are forced to serve in silence because of the military's anti-gay policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT)".
Usually driven and focused, Sabine finds that battles raging both inside and outside the perimeter walls are making it more and more difficult for her to deal with her emotions. Dealing with loss and mortality, lack of privacy, sleep deprivation, loneliness, and the isolation forced on her by Don't Ask, Don't Tell are all taking their toll. Plus, her long-term relationship with a civilian back home is quickly becoming another casualty of war.
Colonel Rebecca Keane is an enigmatic career officer who runs the surgical unit like clockwork. Well-liked and respected by those who work with and under her, she walks a fine line to preserve the military's chain of command while connecting with those under her care and supervision. Sabine knows the colonel is way off-limits but can't help fantasizing about her. Especially when she starts picking up unspoken cues - a stolen glance, a secret smile, an "accidental" brush of hands. Or is it just wishful thinking? After all, Rebecca's wedding ring shines almost as brightly as her deep blue eyes....

Good but...
It's a decent story that's incredibly read. My problem comes from the love. It makes no sense to me how we go from where we are to I love, moving and all that. This is the U-Haul trope which I just don't typically enjoy.

Great
Story was a bit slow but the main characters were all great, the tension and romance was good. Narrator has a very lovely voice :)

Enjoyed It!
I really liked the author's writing style. Scenes were well described. Good storyline. I enjoyed the characters and how they were written. The narrator did a good job differentiating the voices of the characters. I truly recommend it! My first book by this author but definitely not the last.

Lovely and deep
Like the other EJ Noyes book I've read, this stood out amongst romances for going into depth about the main character's feelings about something central to their life OTHER than her budding romance. Too often, other subjects are treated a bit superficially in romance novels, even ones I'd classify as good overall. This difference is what elevates Noyes to, in my opinion, one of the best lesbian romance novelists.
This one hit a bit close to home because my wife was in Afghanistan before I met her and it really makes me thankful she was still around, and as whole as anyone can be after war, for me to meet and fall for. And also that she's Canadian so she didn't have to suffer through Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
As always, Abby C gave an exemplary performance.

Fantastic!
I've been a fan of EJ for a few years now, but this was my first foray into audiobooks. Am I ever pleased that I started with this one. Abby Craden did a phenomenal job reading, her voices fit the characters perfectly and she had a very pleasing tone. Even though I had read the book previously (uh, twice actually), hearing it narrated was such a rich experience.
The story itself is beautiful, frustrating, funny, devastating, and sexy as hell. I am not normally someone who likes stories having to do with anything military related, but the MCs in this are both doctors, though, a major scene does have a battle. The spark between Rebecca and Sabine is deep and achingly real, but due to DADT they cannot act on it, also because Rebecca is Sabine's superior. The secondary characters are a lot of fun and contribute added depth to the MCs. I just cannot recommend this book enough, and their story continues with Ask Me Again, which I cannot wait to be released on audio.

Outstanding.
I know a story is great when it becomes more than just a causal listen on the way to work, and I find myself thinking about the characters constantly, and listening to it any free moment I have. Excellent story. And as usual Abby Craden is the best there is at narration.
