À propos de cet audio
When Anastasia Pollack’s husband permanently cashes in his chips at a roulette table in Vegas, her comfortable middle-class life in New Jersey craps out. She’s left with two teenage sons, a mountain of debt, and her hateful, cane-wielding communist mother-in-law. Not to mention stunned disbelief over her late husband’s secret gambling addiction and the loan shark who’s demanding 50,000 dollars.
Anastasia’s job as crafts editor at American Woman magazine proves no respite when she discovers a dead body glued to her desk chair. The victim, fashion editor Marlys Vandenburg, collected enemies and ex-lovers like Jimmy Choos on her ruthless climb to editor in chief. But when evidence surfaces of an illicit affair between Marlys and Anastasia’s husband, Anastasia becomes the prime suspect. Now she's in a race to find the killer, not only to clear her name but to catch him before he strikes again.

Not your average crafting cozy
If you're looking for your typical cats, crafts and cookie recipe cozy, Anastasia Pollack won't be for you. Yes, she's a Crafts Editor for a woman's magazine, and yes, there's a cat, a dog, even a talking parrot, but unlike many of her cozy mystery contemporaries, Anastasia has a decided edge and while there are no f-bombs, the language isn't PG. Think of her as a cross between Kinsey Millhone and Stephanie Plum with the added responsibility of two teenage sons, a mom who gets married (and widowed) a lot, and a live-in mother-in-law who's not only nasty, but a practicing communist.
Overall, the story works. There's plenty of humor laced between the action, and if there are some too-obvious cliches when describing the mob character after her late husband's borrowed -- and gambled away -- money, it's a small complaint, and Winston does a fine job of turning a recently widowed New Jersey mom into an amateur sleuth.
The narration was less effective. While Botton-Bailey was able to handle multiple voices without trying to overact,, I found her voice to be very strident and that did detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

A great cozy mystery!
This story had me from the beginning. It’s fun, with complex characters and a plot that had me guessing until the end. I definitely recommend!
