À propos de cet audio
Ever since he came out as autistic, Joe Biel has been contacted by people wanting to share their stories and ask questions. The most common question by far is: How do I find a romantic partner?
Dr. Faith G. Harper, author of Unf*ck Your Brain and Unf*ck Your Intimacy, joins autistic publisher and author Joe Biel to offer hard-won guidance on a wide range of topics about friendships, dating, and romance and answer a ton of questions. What do you want out of a relationship? What is the difference between flirting and harassment? How do you have a fun date and get to know someone when eye contact and prolonged conversation aren’t your strengths? How do you change a casual acquaintance into friendship or dating? How do you express your needs and make sure you’re hearing your partner when they express theirs? How do you maintain a healthy, happy long-term relationship?
Autistic listeners will find valuable answers and perspectives in this book, whether they are just getting ready to jump into dating, are seeking to forge closer friendships, or are looking to improve an existing partnership or marriage.

This intimate memoir reveals the woman inside one of autism’s most prominent figures, Jennifer O'Toole. At the age of 35, Jennifer was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, and for the first time in her life, things made sense. Now, she exposes the constant struggle between carefully crafted persona and authentic existence, editing the autism script with wit, candor, passion, and power. Her journey is one of reverse-self-discovery not only as an Aspie but - more importantly - as a thoroughly modern woman.

What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

When Sarah Nannery got her first job at a small nonprofit, she thought she knew exactly what it would take to advance. But soon she realized that even with hard work and conscientiousness, she was missing key meanings and messages embedded in her colleagues' everyday requests, feedback, and praise. She had long realized her brain operated differently than others, but now she knew for sure: She had autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

New edition 2021 with updated research, additional insight, and strategies for communication, information about autism in special populations (such as the gender diverse, those with problematic internet use and gaming addictions, females, and more), and a new section on aging and dementia. Autism is a childhood condition...right? Not right. Children with autism grow into adults with autism. The great strides we have made in understanding childhood autistic behaviors and interventions have lagged dramatically behind the needs of aging autistics.

Autistic advocates including Liane Holliday Willey, Anita Lesko, Jeanette Purkis, Artemisia and Samantha Craft offer their personal guidance on significant issues that particularly affect women, as well as those that are more general to autism.

Like many others on the autism spectrum, 20-something stand-up comic Michael McCreary has been told by more than a few well-meaning folks that he doesn’t “look” autistic. But, as he’s quick to point out in this memoir, autism “looks” different for just about everyone with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Actually autistic review - very affirming!
High praise! i find it difficult to find affirming information for neurodivergent folks that are engaging, accessible and helpful.. even funny/cheeky at times…especially as an late/adult diagnosis theres lots to learn and contextualize and this was a great resource!
I couldn’t recommend this more for autistic people and those who love them and want to understand building and maintaining healthy attachment further.
Have already recommended it to a handful of people and personally will refer back to it in full/certain parts as i try to navigate healthy attachments as a queer, neurodiverse person w/ comorbidity re autism, ADHD, CPTSD, depression, etc.

worth it
not everything said was relevant to everyone who is autistic but it's probably the most inclusive book I've read so far to help autistic people and was really validating. headings are specific so you can skip some parts if they don't apply to you. I personally just let the whole thing play through to help me understand some of the things other autistic people might struggle with that personally aren't something I'm working on. great book. will be reading it again!

All about you. Asperger’s only perspective.
This book is ok for autistic/aspergers people but is pro alternate sexuality and a biased opinion.
