À propos de cet audio
This audiobook, the version of which was first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Only rarely does a sage of Paramhansa Yogananda's stature write a firsthand account of his life experiences. Followers of many religious traditions have come to recognize Autobiography of a Yogi as a masterpiece of spiritual literature. Yet, for all its depth, it is full of gentle humor, lively stories, and practical common sense. Now, with this audiobook, the 1946 edition is again available, with all its inherent power, just as the great master of yoga first presented it.

An Imperfect Recitation, but a Compelling Story
Yogananda's autobiography is something that took me by surprise. I began listening to this recording to find a specific quote, but the overall tale he recounted of his life captured my attention in an unexpected way. I was already one to study the wisdom of India, and perhaps one needs to be inclined as such to consider his life lessons and his accounts of supernormal occurances, but those are precisely why his story is so engaging. He writes of simplistic people performing incredible feats of ability while exhibiting the highest ideals of human thought, which challenge our conceptions of life being random and chaotic, and of humans being merely baser animals following primal urges. Yogananda urges us to be so much more than that.
My criticisms are in that the performance, while given by one of his longtime devoted disciples, includes several fumblings and re-starts in his recitation. These are not attributes of the highest professional standard, but they are ultimately superficial. Another criticism is that Yogananda omits details of controversy and conflicts during the time of establishing his foundation and traveling around North America, which would make for a more complete story if they were included, yet it is somewhat understandable if putting the best foot forward in the story is ultimately the intention.
This has been a mainstay in the library of many conscious seekers of truth and wisdom in the life, and although the recounting has its imperfections, this is a story of a compelling life.
