More than a Food Story

The first of this audio book’s featured stories, Babette’s Feast, is a truly Eucharistic story. It is replete with Catholic thought & imagery. Many see the story as being simply a “Food Story,” in praise of the culinary arts of France. After listening to the story, I can only agree that it is a story about food. Apparently, Dinesen had an active interest in Catholic sacramentality at the time of the novella’s writing. It seems likely that this interest greatly influenced her story. Of course, you need not be Catholic or even French to enjoy the story. How ever you interpret it, it will always come out as a beautiful story of giving & self sacrifice. Both stories, Babette’s Feast & Sorrow Acre, are quite short but very entertaining. The narration well suited both stories & was performed excellently . The overall production was flawless. I recommend this audio book.
