Too damn short
Decided to read ahead. I dont normally like spending a credit on such short books when i could spend it on a 20hr epic.But the book was popular on the store so i gave it a shot, and im glad I did.
While the premise is pretty common, the plot gets pretty complex and enjoyable later on to the point where i couldnt help but wonder what's gonna happen next.
LOVED IT.

Meh.
Picked this up for my so called "free" credit based on the recommendation that it was like Legend of the Arch Magus. Well, on paper if you make a checklist it looks like it's the same. But it's not. It fucking sucks. The ending is the most anticlimactic thing ever. There's no major villain, or even a struggle.
I will add that I am an English speaking Canadian that thinks french canadians are the scum of the earth so much so that I won't even capitalize french or canadian when referring to them.., so half the book being done in an over the top atrocious french accent probably didn't help my scoring. In fact, I tell you plainly that I took 1 star off for that alone. I'm going to try and refund.

Noble intrigue, second chances, and arrogance
This is an interesting book.
The premise is that a magically gifted assassin is allowed to reincarnate with his memories intact... into the body of a debauched, useless bastard son of a noble who is mired in debt and surrounded by enemies. Our main character has to recover his magic and dig himself out of the hole his former self has left him in - and meanwhile, disentangle himself from the schemes of the people around him, especially his family.
It's a good story with an excellent narrator - I don't think I've ever heard so many different French accents before! But the story is marred by an ultimately unlikable main character. While our hero is far better than the bastard whose body he finds himself in, he is full of so much confidence that it becomes his defining characteristic. Yes, he can afford to be, since he is so much more powerful than the people around him, but he doesn't match this confidence with a noble trait that would make him charming. Instead of being kind or pursuing justice, our hero is simply arrogant - which dries up my interest.

Way too many characters and names
It’s like you’re studying a history book. There are 10 new names and places ever 2 minutes. Gets tiring after a while. Still I’m going to finish the series because the premise is interesting to me.
