À propos de cet audio
In 1991, flight attendant Nancy Ludwig checked in to an airport hotel near Detroit. The next morning she was found gagged, raped, and tortured - her throat slit with such rage that she was nearly decapitated. Her husband Arthur never gave up hope that the future would bring enough evidence to close the case. But it was the past that held the clue.
In 1985, 55-year-old Margarette Eby, a music professor, met the same grisly death at her cottage in Flint, Michigan. The case went cold - until six years later when the victim's son Mark came upon the story of Nancy Ludwig's slaying. With nothing to go on but intuition, he called authorities, certain that the same fiend committed both crimes.
A cunning sting operation yielded irrefutable DNA evidence, and authorities were led to the home of respected navy veteran Jeffrey Gorton living quietly with his wife and two children. But his cold-blooded secrets were only beginning to come to light, leaving fears that there were more victims yet to be found in a killing spree that had finally come to an end. Blood Justice shows veteran reporter and author Tom Henderson at the top of his game.

Meticulously researched
Mr. Henderson is adept at bringing a listener right into the story, to recognize each participant. I was amused when he mentioned the Detroit Downtown Runners group, of which my brother and sister-in-law were members. They remember the person in the group named as a possible culprit in the crime. Also, being familiar with the locales made the detailed story easier to follow. This is the first Tom Henderson book I have purchased, but it won't be the last. I shall expect all his other books to be as well written and well performed. My family speaks highly of Mr. Henderson and his wife. Nice people.

Immersive True Crime. Overly-Punctilious.
Tom Henderson inserts his readers directly into the lives of everyone involved in the serial crimes discussed in his book: victims, numerous suspects, perpetrators, investigators, jurists, and the families of all of those individuals. Reminiscences.. childhood experiences.. NOTHING is left out from this exposé. It yields an astonishingly relatable authentic-sounding documentary. Unfortunately, it also yields a book badly in need of an editor. Someone needs to tell Henderson: "A witness's vacation experiences, Tom? The judge's academic history? Those are kind of irrelevant, aren't they? Make some cuts, please."
This fascinating book outlines how dedicated cold case investigators & family (along with well-maintained Fingerprint/DNA databases) can ensure that justice is served. Annoyingly, it also could easily have been delivered with ⅓ of what's presented.
Fortuitously for audiobook afficianados: Richard Powers reads the book without audibly yawning. His narration is nearly flawless (in terms of diction, timbre, cadence, voice-acting, tone, and pacing), but his evident interest in the book goes beyond "professional". Considering what Powers is given to work with, it's actually astounding.
It's unfortunate that Blackstone Publishing drops the ball somewhat - sound editors occasionally mismatch spliced re-recorded segments into the audiobook, for example - this could have been an unimpeachable presentation.
Altogether, 'Blood Justice' rates 6 stars out of 10. Better editing and better mixing could doubtless improve the product.. but - as it stands - your *time* is a reasonable investment in the book.
Should it leave the 'Plus' catalog, however, you should find something else for your Credit.
