À propos de cet audio

The body of young, paralyzed Luca, a boy killed by cruel bullies, becomes home to an interdimensional traveler. This is the 99th world for this traveler who has spent an entire life in each of his previous worlds. And now, he is out of lives, his previous misdeeds leaving him with a negative balance of points and preventing him from reincarnating anew. Once he realizes that he must spend his final life in a poverty-stricken family in a backward world, he awakens the consciousness of the deceased Luca and ends his own physical existence, leaving all his abilities to his heir.

One such ability is the use of the Wheel. Every traveler can spend points to spin the Wheel and gain a special talent, a superpower, or...a deadly illness. Luca spins the Wheel and gains the superpower of metamorphosis. Now, he can regenerate, recover from deadly wounds, and even take on the shape of other beings. The young man takes on the form of the Emperor: to avoid death, help his family, and finally, to bring order to the Empire!

Passable Fantasy-Adventure Book

Kazakh author Dan Sugralinov offers a distinctly Dark entry in the Cyrillic GameLit subgenre of LitRPG. His game-structured world is full of misery, slavery, violent murderous bullying, kept concubines, forced desperate prostitution, and routine near-rape. His vision is so pessimistic that it's unintentionally uncomfortable.
On the good side of the ledger, the characters are interesting (including a dying enigmatic interdimensional entity on its 99th life, a selfish despotic emperor, self-serving/treacherous court hangers-on, and a despairing destitute family - dying mom, crippled son, waif girl), the game mechanics are intuitive, and the translated description is mind's-eye vivid.
Less fortunately, the pacing is terrible (nothing of consequence happens before the novel is half over), the text is oversexualized, there is not enough action, and the dialogue is overdramatic.

As to presentation: Wayne Mitchell is an "average" narrator at best - neither falling apart nor doing anything to distinguish himself for the most part. He demonstrates creditable enunciation, timbre, cadence, and pacing - as well as a truly admirable understanding of the author's intended tone (as conveyed by translator Alix Merlin Williamson) - but his voice-acting is often annoyingly cartoonish. Tantor Audio Inc. could have gotten better results with another professional reader.

Altogether, this first book in Sugralinov's 'World 99' Series rates 5 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a 'Plus' option, 'Blood of Fate' is a serviceable distraction.. but if they ask for a Credit, better choices beckon.

slow start, but very unique!

I just hope we get the sequels at some point in the future. I'd really like to see where the story goes!

multidimensional

Was unsure at the begining but as the story developed got more and more drawn in, would like the rest to find out what happens with Luca from here on
