Description
Blood of Others received one of the world's top literary prizes for crime fiction, the 2003 Arthur Ellis Award, given by the Crime Writers of Canada for Best Novel. In his praise of the book, James Patterson, the number-one worldwide best-selling author, said Blood of Others was "tense, realistic, and scary in all the right places".
The disappearance and murder of a lonely San Francisco insurance clerk puts a relentless crime reporter and a legendary homicide cop on separate tracks in their pursuit of a killer. The suspect lures solitary women out of their quiet worlds and into his nightmare as he races the clock and travels the globe searching for the one woman who will forgive the unforgivable. In the course of a widening investigation, Olivia Grant, a shy gift store sales manager who aches to escape her painful solitude, meets Ben Wyatt, an outcast San Francisco cop on the case. Wyatt is a man gripped with self-doubt over the shooting of his former partner.
Blood of Others is a study of loneliness and human frailties; a story steeped in terrifying suspense that threatens to destroy the lives of those drawn into it as it rockets to a heart-pounding conclusion.

Another great one!
So far this is my favourite Tom Reed/ Walt Sydowski book. In this one, they are both investigating the gruesome murders of lonely, young , single women who were active in online chat rooms.
I like the recurring characters: Anne (Tom's wife), Molly (Tom's colleague), Linda (Walt's partner) and Louise (Walt's girlfriend). There wasn't enough about Walt's loveable father in this one.
There's a new character I hope we get to see again: Ben Wyatt, a cop with computer proficiency who uses his skills to investigate online.
The story was fast-paced and exciting. Being in the perp's head was really disturbing.
The ending was great, even as I was fighting sleep to listen to the last 20 min, so it's probably even better than I realize.
There are only 2 more Tom & Walt books in the series! Onto the next!

Great Mystery-Thriller. Somehow Incongruous
The crimes described in this novel are disturbing (including online predation, abduction, and multiple gory murders to feed a jawdropping psychpathology). Rick Mofina crafts a well-paced story brimming with suspense, horrifying imagery, and uncomfortable tension.
Mofina then chooses to present it as a PG-13 story for some reason. There are certainly personality/relationship conflicts and discussion of some 'Eleanor Rigby'- level loneliness, but the San Francisco setting is clean & bright, the characters are largely happy & in love, there is virtually zero profanity, and the general tone is noticeably lighthearted. Consequently, the story doesn't reach the heights that the gripping R-rated mystery most assuredly deserves.
I am less happy with Christian Rummel's performance compared to that in the first two books of the 'Reed and Sydowski' series, too. His diction, timbre, tone, and cadence remain spectacular and his impersonator-quality voice-acting is peerless, but the female characters all sound similar and playback speed should be set at 1.20X in this one to make up for a plodding reading pace. Rummel remains a superior narrator (his Canadian accent might be the best I've ever heard), but his execution in this effort is subpar.
Despite the uncharacteristic errors in storytelling and presentation, this third recording in a great series rates 8.5 stars out of 10. Even if Audible hadn't offered this audiobook for free with my subscription, I would spend a Credit on 'Blood Of Others'. You should definitely give this affecting procedural a few hours of your time.
(NOTE: This offering has significant standalone merit - you don't need to read any of the other books to be entertained by the story - but you should give the other installments in the series a listen, as well)

Another good one by Rick Mofina
Enjoyed this one, as others have written, being in the killer’s ‘head’ was quite riveting. A little overdone at times but all in all I’m glad I listened in.
Onto the next

i thought the first book I read by him was amazing
This series is great. The characters come alive like I personally know them. Suspenseful and realistic as Hell.

Liked the story; narration: meh
This novel by Rick Mofina was a good story with well-rounded characters and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. I have to confess, though, that my patience with Anne, Tom Reed's wife, has grown very thin over the series. She knows that Tom is a crime reporter, and blithely demands that he give it up in favour of her career; and she comes off as a harpy. Regarding Christian Rummel's narration, I have to say that I'm not a fan. All the women sound the same; and too many of the men sound like old Poles, although maybe they all are. These criticisms apart, the story was exciting, with a lovely ending! On to the next one!
