Description

Turner West is a busy man.

After killing the vampire lord Silas, he hoped to build a safe haven to protect his people and his women from danger, but the land has other plans.

New undead killers have emerged, and something unholy has been born - and it wants blood.

With his women, his knife, and his will, he will fight against a danger that far surpasses all that has come before, and this time it’s using nature itself to hunt him down.

More tacky unnecessary sex scenes

This book series would be fantastic if they left the lame, tacky sex scenes out. Way to ruin a good story.

Stop Laughing.. I've Read Worse

Okay, Okay. It's bad.
The first installment in the 'Bloodlands' series explored some fairly clichéd scenarios - post-apocalyptic remnants of humanity struggling in a new low-tech reality; undead creatures prowling the landscape; and an overpowered hero (a surgically-enhanced silver-infused vampire hunter in this case) - but it was revelation after revelation and paced quickly enough to allow me to set aside the stoopid and just enjoy the fun.
This follow-up from Daniel Pierce suffers from not having the advantage of revealing the "novelty" - it's basically the same as the first book (although including some bizarre twists - vampiric escaped zoo animals, for example - yes, you heard that right). On the good side, the similarity includes breakneck pacing and action, action, action. Unfortunately, it also includes the weaker aspects of 'Bloodlands I': predictable bad-guys, formulaic 'Thunderdome' towns, and "Stop That! Stop That! Too Silly!!" (apologies to Monty Python) plot elements.
Most annoying of all - the full title of this book ("Bloodlands 2: A Post-Apocalyptic Harem") really needs to be emphasized in the book description: the gratuitous explicit sex notable in Book One is overwhelming in this one.

More fortunately, the excellent performance from J.F. Harding improves the story markedly. He once again delivers spot-on diction, timbre, cadence, and tone and provides some of the better "Wild West" drawls I have heard.

Sadly, great quality standards can't make up for the deficiencies in the book. Besides the drawbacks in the writing (hard-to-swallow and oversexed), this book has basically Zero standalone merit (you pretty much have to read the first story to have *any* idea what's going on here).
That said, the 2.5/10 star audiobook was a 'Plus' catalogue option. If you can likewise get it for free, it's not crazy to give it a download  - but paying for it would be awfully hard to justify.
