À propos de cet audio
As seen on the Emmy Award-winning TV show - Leah Remini - Scientology & the Aftermath
Nominated by Foreword Magazine as 2009 Book of the Year Award Finalist
Marc Headley provides an insider's view of life as a member of Scientology's "Sea Organization". Marc worked at Scientology's secret desert compound, which houses all Scientology management, for 15 years. The 500-acre property is located deep in the California desert. The local townspeople were told lectures and films were made there. But is that all that was happening? It is the location of a multi-million-dollar home for L. Ron Hubbard, built two decades after his death. It is the home of Scientology's current leader, David Miscavige.
So what really happens at the Int Base? Are the stories on the Internet true? How does Scientology conduct management of its day-to-day operations? Could stories of armed guards, weapons, staff beatings, and razor-wire fences be true? If so, how could a facility like this exist in modern-day America?
Hundreds of staff tried to escape over the years. Some succeeded but were never seen or heard of again; most failed. Why were people kept here? What really went on at the headquarters of Scientology? This is the story of what happened behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology.
"...the Scientology cult, is I guarantee you, a thousand times more bizarre than you could have ever imagined." (The John & Ken Show, KFI AM 640)
"Headley's book also provides stunning material that has rarely been collected in one place...a damning account of life working for Scientology leader David Miscavige at the secretive desert base...." (Tony Ortega, The Village Voice)
"Marc Headley, a former insider at the church, has written a tell-all book, called Blown for Good, about his 15 years of work with Scientology. And folks...you can't handle the truth...." (The Frisky)

In September 2007, Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at age 14. This harrowing account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this closed community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Wall tells the incredible story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice.

Tom Cruise and John Travolta say the Church of Scientology is a force for good. Others disagree. Award-winning journalist John Sweeney investigated the Church for more than half a decade. During that time he was intimidated, spied on, and followed, and the results were spectacular: Sweeney lost his temper with the Church's spokesman on camera, and his infamous 'exploding tomato' clip was seen by millions around the world.

Behind the tall, foreboding gates of a commune in Brazil, Daniella Mestyanek Young was raised in the religious cult The Children of God, also known as The Family, as the daughter of high-ranking members. Her great-grandmother donated land for one of The Family’s first communes in Texas. Her mother, at thirteen, was forced to marry the leader and served as his secretary for many years. Beholden to The Family’s strict rules, Daniella suffers physical, emotional, and sexual abuse—masked as godly discipline and divine love—and is forbidden from getting a traditional education.

Gripping story of escape from high-control group
Marc reads his own autobiographical account of his life in a high-control group. The opening escape, continued in the last few chapters, are an edge-of-your-seat account (even though I knew how it ended)! It was especially great to hear Marc's story in his own words, narrated with his own voice. And he is a great story teller, from his teenage years through his years working at the group's international headquarters. I can hardly wait for his next book, which I hope will cover how he built his life and family in the outside world!

Great look into the insanity which is the cult of Scientology.
Incredible story. Well done. Great look into a cult and how twisted people in “power” can become. And how the madness and insanity becomes the followers “normal” and everyday way of life.

Amazing if you get past the first couple chapters
I almost gave this book a shitty review because Marc Headley sounded like a biased prick in the first couple chapters.. I'm so happy I kept on listening though. If you manage to get past his obnoxious spoiled and egotistical past, described in the first couple chapters, you start to get to the core of the subject.. how things run in the higher stratas of Scientology. Being an ex sea organization member my self, I can confirm that the things he described are as legitimate as it gets. He however, made it to the highest ranks of the sea organization and worked very closely with David Miscavige and RTC (the highest order or Scientology rank) which tells very well how they operate and some of the disgusting tactics they use. For fun, I typed in Marc Headley and this Scientology paid result appeared to smear his and his wife's image.. makes you realize how much bullshit the church of Scientology peddles. they have so much to lose if anything in this book becomes common knowledge, so they made this stupid video in an attempt to smear him.. Marc is nothing less than a hero for everything he did and enduring the smear campaign from the church in order to get truth out.

I love that Mark narrates the book himself. It makes it more real. Lots of technical talk but he helps the listener to understand the language well. His memory of events is impressive. Overall it's a very good book.

Excellent but for woman's' descriptions
When it comes to Scientology and it's abuses this book is excellent. The author paints a very detailed picture of the tar pit of torture that is the innerworkings of Scientology. Comparing this book to other accounts really just reaffirms and provides consistency to the allegations in regards to this "Church".
While I appreciate Marc's honestly and candid approach I find his descriptions of women take away from the book. While men get your usual descriptions the vast majority of women are described through their attractiveness. While tasteless normally this is honestly made worse given the context that during these times these women just like the author were going through torture and abuse and now judgement of their hotness at that time is memorialized in this book. Pair this with how little the author speaks about his wife until he blows, probably for good reason I imagine it is painful, it makes the hotness comments almost stand out even more.
