À propos de cet audio
Contains books one and two of Bond of a Dragon, a fast-paced adventure fantasy series featuring fierce dragons, powerful magic, and a hero fighting for justice.
Zahara's Gift, book one
Nineteen-year-old Anders lived a fairly normal life until the only family he had was taken away from him. When he finds himself forced to embark on an action-packed adventure, he discovers there is more to the world than he was told. The magical force that flows within everything around him becomes revealed. Dragons, elves, orcs, and goblins lurk around nearly every turn along the path as he pursues his two kidnapped cousins.
As Anders discovers more about his family’s past, he learns of their involvement in the War of the Magicians and the circumstances leading up to the attack of his hometown. When Anders is told about his potential involvement in a prophecy involving dragons and their powerful magic, he will need to make a difficult decision. Will he continue to follow the path that is laid out for him, or can he make his own destiny? Will he ever be reunited with his family again? And if he succeeds, will he ever be able to return to the life he once knew?
Secrets of the Sapphire Soul, book two
Anders knows the war to stop Merglan from reclaiming his grip on the world is just beginning. With no certainty about where or when Merglan will attack next, Anders and his companions must take action to stay one step ahead of the cruel sorcerer and his evil dragon.
As he searches for ways to stop Merglan’s domination of their world, Anders discovers more than he expected. With several nations of Kartania on the brink of collapse, he must make a difficult decision. Is the young rider ready to deal with the consequences he’s facing? Can Anders overcome the odds and unravel the secrets of the sapphire soul?

• In Book One ('Zahara's Gift'), we meet a stereotypical YA hero: the angsty but morally-flawless 'Anders' - avoiding capture by the evil wizard 'Merglan' and learning that he needs to bond with a living dragon to access his considerable reserves of power. He makes allies of denizens of neighboring kingdoms, meets a future girlfriend, finds and befriends the juvenile she-dragon 'Zahara', and resolves to go after Merglan/rescue his captured cousins.
The book is well-planned and well-paced with capable writing skills on display, but nothing particularly special.
• 'Secrets Of The Sapphire Soul' opens where the first book left off: Anders & Zahara exploring the new world of magical power that has opened up to them and learning how to fight as a dragonrider team - and continuing the fight against Merglan & his evil dragon Kildor. The friends work to forge an alliance between men, elves, dwarves, and dragons - while unmasking spies and uncovering Merglan's motivations.
The interaction between characters betrays a noticeable decrement in maturity in this book (reading something like 'Prince Caspian' - the second book in the 'Narnia Chronicles'). It's still enjoyable.. but less engaging.
Bottom Line: Meh. This compendium is "an option". The books have an unsophisticated YA Fantasy flavor (they're clearly written for teenagers) and follow pretty predictable plot progressions - but also do it proficiently. Your 12-year-old will love this story if you give it a try.
Reader Ben Farrow is professional & capable, but suffers from drymouth, audibly shifts in his seat while reading, makes some questionable characterization choices (the German-tinged Elves interpretation is borderline startling), and occasionally overwhelms the text/dialogue with his natural Scottish brogue.
Don't get me wrong: his diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are creditable - and Podium Audio engineers provide exemplary technical support - it's just that the end result of their efforts is a subpar listening product.
Altogether, 'Bond Of A Dragon: Publisher's Pack' merits 7 stars out of 10. The value of offering two books in one package improves the attractiveness of the audiobook - and the decision to invest the time when it was a 'Plus' option was a good one - but your Credit is better spent on Paolini's superior take on the scenario (or better spent on some McCaffrey if you simply want to read about dragonriders).

I really enjoyed the first part of the book, but not so much the second. If I could split my rating, I'd give the first half 4 stars.
There are some questionable choices, like Zehara, the dragon, purring whenever she's happy. I found some of the battle scenes just drawn out, and the overall plot a bit too predictable. There is also a cliffhanger, but I wasn't really invested enough in the protagonists, to jump on the sequel, at least not right away.
Ben Farrow did a good job reading this book, but like someone else noted, the German accent on the elves just didn't sound right.
A bit weak as the book progressed
