À propos de cet audio
Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska.
It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest.
But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out. He finds no closure because no one can explain exactly what happened to Danny.
And the more he searches for answers, the more he finds himself becoming part of the mystery...

A recluse in rural Alaska walks into a diner and admits to the owner that he has killed 8 people and needs to tell the police where he buried them. Paul Gallow is searching for his twin brother who went missing about 1 year ago after abandoning his life and moved to Alaska to find himself. After hearing about the horrific crimes of this man Mallory up in Dreads Hand Alaska, Paul packs up to find out what really happened to his brother and if he fell victim to Mallory. After arriving, Paul realizes that the locals there do not want him poking around asking questions, and really crazy events start to transpire as Paul’s tenacious efforts lead him in all different directions and chaos as he continues his search.
Rating overall
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Characters
⭐⭐ ⭐⭐ - All the characters were so well crafted. Paul was the perfect protagonist for a story like this. A complete fish out of water persona that I would think the majority of people could relate to in some way or another, which make his situation in Alaska more unnerving to the read. The natives of the Alaskan area really amplified the rural horror and combined with the setting; they gave me chills.
Worldbuilding
⭐⭐⭐⭐ - The way Malfi constructed the world gave it very liminal space vibes. The idea implanted that you really never understood how large anything was, gave a notion that it was tight but that undiscovered spaces were always lurking in the shadows.
Story
⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ - I thought this story was great. The scary parts were terrifying and uncomfortable. I was completely caught off guard throughout the whole thing. My mind didn’t have enough time to think straight to come up with any theories or concepts of what was going on here. I was constantly shocked throughout.
Final Comments:
The narrator had this professional exuberance that had the sound and tone of someone narrating Winnie the Pooh, but in the context of them reading this novel like this made it utterly horrific. The connecting fibers of the themes, of family connections, the unexplained mysticism of the world, and ancient/rural horrors, gave this book a level of creepiness and unease that just sucked me in and didn’t let go until it was done.
Who would I recommend to:
Anyone who enjoys rural horror and gore, I think this will be right up their alley. Happy reading and sleeping with the lights on. 😱😧😵
Terrifying from the start!

This? It was ok. Some of Malfi's works I really enjoy, and some, like this one, are a slog.
It was genuinely unnerving, but that was solely due to the claustrophobic setting. There wasn't much to the mystery, or the characters, and even the killings lacked, I don't know, emotional resonance? Depth?
I do appreciate the somewhat happy ending, but overall, this one wasn't for me.
