So. Once I got used to the world setting in the first Vigilante Magical Librarians book (includes magic, but it's different from other R.J. Blain series), I loved the characters and the plot. This sequel is the continuation of events that occured in the first book, is just as interesting, and adds more to the ongoing mystery (what's going on?, why did this or that plot twist happen?, etc.). Seriously looking forward to what happens in the next book/audiobook!
Note: I know that the series has had some bad reviews, which seem to center on the books not not being part of another series that Ms. Blain is better known for. But I'm not sure why that's a problem. After all, authors rarely restrict themselves to one series, no matter how much readers might wish that they did. Why not just enjoy it (or not) for what it is and leave it at that?
