À propos de cet audio
Lieutenant Joe Gunther is in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom investigating a minor embezzling case. It's a pleasant distraction and a chance to reconnect with old friends, but when a house fire reveals itself to be arson, compounded by murder, Gunther can't help but investigate. He quickly finds himself enmeshed in a web of animosity between put-upon townspeople, the state police, angry parents, and members of a reclusive sect. Murder follows murder, yet no one seems to be telling Gunther the whole truth - not even his childhood friends. And truth is what he desperately needs if he's to stop the killings.

Good easy listening
Enjoyable story well told. The solution was easy but the plot acceptable and the flow was good.

Acceptable
Archer Mayor is never going to win any writing awards - except perhaps for research. His description of everything ranging from the forensic examination of corpses to fire investigation procedures for arson is clear, well-reasoned, and accurate. The characters in this book are interesting, the dialogue - while somewhat stilted - is reasonably realistic, and the revelations are twisty-turny.
Unfortunately, some of the plot elements in 'Borderlines' are so implausible that it's hard to maintain the illusion of reality [a middle-aged cop returning to his home town for a work assignment/visit and joining the Fire Department to fight house fires in (basically) his spare time is too much to ask of readers/listeners].
Narrator Tom Taylorson does his level best to elevate the book.. but falls just short, too. His diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are legitimately praiseworthy - but his characteristic cinematic voice-acting is a little off on this project for some reason. It just doesn't quite reach Taylorson's normally peerless standards.
Altogether, I rate the recording 6 stars out of 10. I feel very fortunate to have gotten it as a 'Plus' selection - it was a great distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons - but paying a Credit, should Audible ask, would be questionable.
[Incidentally: insects don't slowly crawl across the exposed corneas of corpses in near-zero weather.. no matter how striking the imagery. There are no insects buzzing around outside when you can see your breath in Vermont]
