Struggled to continue with this read.
Poorly written. Narration was poor. But in fairness the poor writing couldn't have made it easy.

Relevantly Profound
This girl finishes this book 2 days before my 11 month kajiraversary. Elinor reminded me of my own hesitation and frustration when I had embarked on adopting the philosophy integrating it to my own. I fondly realize how valuable it is to please and serve. It took me a long time to understand and adjust to this. In enlightenment of my kajira journey this book allowed me to kindredly connect with Elinor and her parallel difficulty adjusting to kajira lifestyle. I realize too when I finished this book that I realized too like Elinor that I have come far in my journey. Reading this brought fond and profound memories to my introduction in being a kajira.

I love the story but...
I love this story, but I'm not impressed with that narrator. It sounds like it's being voiced by Siri. It's just read, not acted, which the others in the series performed by Ralph Lister are. I apol fir the bluntness, but I wasn't able to finish the first chapter.

Interesting, but...
It's an attempt to provide a story from the perspective of a slavegirl, which should be interesting, but Elinor isn't a great character. She's pretty stupid and morally bankrupt and her introspection and character development refuses to really go anywhere until she is physically and mentally broken. There were so many opportunities for her to really grow, but instead what we got was her intransigently remaining a terrible person, having moments of decency only out of fear of punishment. It was to the point where I much preferred the side characters over the protagonist and this did not change over the course of the book.
Still, this book does provide a great deal of worldbuilding. Being written from the perspective of a slavegirl, it's perhaps a better view of that lot in Gorean life than what is provided in something like Assassin of Gor (which took place largely in the house of a slaver). It also reinforces that the author's view of women, while still rather suspect, isn't completely bad. The whole submission to men thing is always there, but he does write some complexity and strength into women. Not so much Elinor, but in characters like Verna and Ute — the latter of whom being the best character in this book.
Still worth reading if you're a fan of the series or, like me, it ever remains a guilty pleasure.
