À propos de cet audio
#1 New York Times Bestseller
“Careless People is darkly funny and genuinely shocking...Not only does [Sarah Wynn-Williams] have the storytelling chops to unspool a gripping narrative; she also delivers the goods."—Jennifer Szalai, The New York Times
“When one of the world’s most powerful media companies tries to snuff out a book—amid other alarming attacks on free speech in America like this—it’s time to pull out all the stops.”–Ron Charles, The Washington Post
An explosive memoir charting one woman’s career at the heart of one of the most influential companies on the planet, Careless People gives you a front-row seat to Facebook, the decisions that have shaped world events in recent decades, and the people who made them.
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.
Sarah Wynn-Williams tells the wrenching but fun story of Facebook, mapping its rise from stumbling encounters with juntas to Mark Zuckerberg’s reaction when he learned of Facebook’s role in Trump’s election. She experiences the challenges and humiliations of working motherhood within a pressure cooker of a workplace, all while Sheryl Sandberg urges her and others to “lean in.”
Careless People is a deeply personal account of why and how things have gone so horribly wrong in the past decade—told in a sharp, candid, and utterly disarming voice. A deep, unflinching look at the role that social media has assumed in our lives, Careless People reveals the truth about the leaders of Facebook: how the more power they grasp, the less responsible they become and the consequences this has for all of us.

'Devastating . . . funny . . . highly enjoyable . . . A Bridget Jones’s Diary-style tale of a young woman thrown into a series of improbable situations'—The Times
'Amazing: of all the books in all the world Mr Free Speech Zuckerberg wants to ban, it’s the one about him'—Marina Hyde, Guardian
"A darkly hilarious, shocking tale that starts as farce and ends as tragedy. It combines withering portraits of Facebook’s insular, callous leadership with harrowing details of what Wynn-Williams calls the company’s “lethal carelessness” on the global stage.”–Michelle Goldberg, The New York Times

shocking and disturbing! No wonder Facebook tried to block its publication.
Sarah Wynn-Williams's narration is excellent, and she provides a truly compelling, insider's view of Facebook. Her story provides a deep dive into the company's culture and the decisions that shaped it.
What really hit me was the book's ability to show the ethical dilemmas Facebook faced, and how those decisions impacted real people. The allegations about their dealings with the Chinese government, their active involvement in spreading misinformation to help Donald Trump win the 2016 election, or their selling of info about vulnerable teens to companies for targeted advertising, are truly unsettling. It really made me think about the power that the people at Facebook wield, and how they use it.
The book does a great job of showing how Facebook's focus on growth often came at the expense of user safety and ethical considerations. You get a sense of the internal pressures and the decisions that were made, and it's not always pretty.
This book will make you reconsider your relationship with social media. It's a fascinating and, at times, disturbing look behind the curtain of the most powerful social media company in the world.

Interesting Story Very Well Narrated by the Author
I kept wondering how such an obviously intelligent person could have remained so naive in the face of mounting evidence and her own experience that a company owned by an oddball and run by an all-powerful and sycophantic c-suite would ever be a force for good.

Everybody should listen to this
It takes courage to write a book like this. An important read that illuminates the greed and complete lack of morality that ails a too-powerful American tech company.

Love, must listen
As I write this review on Amazon's Audible I realize that I supported another billionaire by buying this book online.... But I pick my battles, I'm not perfect. I recommend this book to open your eyes on what social media companies do with your data and your children. Mind blowing. Not to mention politics. Support of dictators... Good luck America, good luck world.

Wow
If even half this book is true then the world has some serious reflection to do. What is the ethical response to
to such a dangerous, unethical company? I have to assume that there must be some proof for the various messages she quotes in order to get published I would need to research that. This was a well-written and engaging story. I have to wonder why the author never walks away. I could not stand this level of bullying and corruption. Surely they were never so poor that she couldn't have gone a few months without work. The denial is strong, I guess.

Incredible Storytelling for True Events
As a socialist who strongly believes in Humanitarian causes and Human rights, the subjects of this novel are right up my alley. Learning about the system, as painful as it can be at times, is incredibly important, and whistleblowers like Sarah make that possible.
As a writer, I have been completely absorbed in this story since I downloaded it. Every twist and turn, all based on real events, had me on the edge of my seat. The moments of going: “Oh *that’s* what was happening during this weird event.” And “Oh yikes” were terrifying joys. I also admire how Sarah managed to organize so many events in an order that flowed so smoothly, and wrote such a personal experience in an entertaining matter. It takes a lot of skill, discipline, and humility yet confidence to achieve this.
This has become one of my favourite books! I found myself relating to some of the Authors experiences, getting angry on her behalf, learning new things about experiences I’m unfamiliar with, and more. Highly recommend!

Wonderful writing and story telling
This is a must listen! I am an avid reader/audible listener and normally don’t write review. However, this book is so good.
The book takes us through a journey of her personal life while at FB. It then brings us into her work life. And that circle of story telling is done throughout the book. I was left in awe about how simple it is for companies to manipulate anything and anyone they need to money. It doesn’t take a big plan just an idea while on a plane and a text message to someone else in their world.
THIS IS A MUST READ.

A Cavalcade of Narcissists
I haven't been on Facebook since 2009 because I saw back then how amoral and sociopathic a person Mark Zuckerberg was and could already see his evil intentions with the platform. I don't consider myself some kind of prophetic genius, so it's always confused me how many people either didn't notice or didn't care back then. If after listening to this, you still won't quite Meta's products, then you are enabling what they're doing and are part of the problem, it's as simple as that.
Sarah Wynn-Williams is a former policy person at Facebook, but to hear the story, she was almost more of Zuckerberg and Cheryl Sandberg's political fixer. She went in with good intentions, but ended up facilitating political connections for a team of executives who even by Silicon Valley standards, are narcissists to the extreme. At the same time, there isn't necessary much that's revelatory in this if you've followed the news about the company. Mark Zuckerberg's true colours have been on display for years (as evidenced by his latest PR-laden attempt to become some kind of MAGA everyman) and it was always pretty clear that Cheryl Sandberg was never the feminist icon she portrayed herself as, but just another selfish, exploitative executive and as Wynn-Williams does reveal, also a sexual predator who of course, has gotten away with it unscathed. What makes these people decidedly more dangerous than many other Silicon Valley executives is how they've been demonstrably shown to be directly contributing to fixing elections and contributing to massive global conflicts, all purely in the interests of their business and egos. This book lays out plainly why they not only shouldn't have their power but arguably, should probably be in prison.
At the same time, while Wynn-Williams' tales do paint a rather incredible picture of her employers, I don't believe she ultimately comes across in the most positive light either. What she tells is the story of someone who stayed at the company well beyond the point of them showing what they were, taking all kinds of abuse and hypocrisy from them and rather than getting out when it made sense, continuing to tell herself that she was doing good to avoid facing the hard truths, even when it was clearly hurting her and her young family. With how she tells things, it sounds like her husband Tom is nothing short of a saint.
If you already hate Facebook, this will help give you more ammunition for when you are trying to convince others to leave it. If you don't hate Facebook, this will probably convince you to and if not, then you might want to do some introspection. Facebook and those running it are some of the most dangerous entities in the world today and to continue to use their products enables them. You don't need Facebook and everything it offers is done better by someone else. Leave them behind.
