À propos de cet audio

Jack's a retired ex-cop from New York, seeking the simple life in Cherringham. Sarah's a Web designer who's moved back to the village find herself. But their lives are anything but quiet as the two team up to solve Cherringham's criminal mysteries.

This compilation contains episodes 1 - 3: MURDER ON THAMES, MYSTERY AT THE MANOR and MURDER BY MOONLIGHT.

Here Jack and Sarah investigate a suicide in the River Thames - or was it murder? They investigate an "accidental" fire with deadly consequences, and they nab the culprit behind the Rotary Club choir poisoning.

Cherringham is a series à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick listen for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

For fans of Agatha Christie's "Miss Marple series", Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who series", Caroline Graham's "Midsomer Murders", and the American TV series "Murder She Wrote", starring Angela Lansbury.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of "DCI John Barnaby" in "Midsomer Murders" and "Jim Riley" in "The Life of Riley".©2016 Bastei Lübbe (P)2016 Lübbe Audio

Thoroughly enjoyable

Sat here of an evening and listened to this with a glass of wine.
We loved midsummer murders and having lived by the Thames and not far from Swindon, we could envisage the river and villages mentioned.
Neil does a fabulous job narrating the book.
We are looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Lots of fun!

I was looking for a charming British crime series and I found it! If you like Midsomer Murders you will definitely like this series. Neil Dudgeon does a really excellent job of narrating, even the American accent! Sure, some parts of the storyline are a bit improbable; I'm not sure that two civilians would actually be allowed to run around doing all the stuff that they do investigating these crimes, but what the heck? If you suspend your disbelief just a little bit you will enjoy this cozy crime series.

Good Fun!

These are definitely “cozy” British mysteries. My only complaint is with the portrayal of Jack when he first met Sarah…his unwarranted rudeness, which seemed to come out of nowhere just about made me stop reading but I’m glad I continued. These were entertaining stories with generally good narration; even the American accent was quite believable. For a bit of frothy storytelling, I’d recommend this trio of mysteries.

Lovely light mysteries. Neil Dudgeon is as fantastic a narrator as he is a Midsomer detective!!

Surprised Me

I really enjoyed these cozy crime stories. I loved how they don't take time to get to the point. The narrator did an excellent job portraying the characters.

Intriguing and engaging

I just discovered this author and am addicted to this series. Great characters, descriptive enough to paint a mental picture yet the story moves along at a nice pace. Excellent narration and interesting plots and twists. I’m buying up the whole series and look forward to more from Matthew Costello. Hope to hear much more from the narrator in future. Love his voice and interpretation of each character.

Very nice collection of novellas

I enjoy very much the Cherringham and Mydworth Mystery Series. They are short, fun to listen to and a nice respite between longer mysteries or more serious books. Keep them coming, I say.

Neil Dudgeon does a superb narration.

Narrator unintelligible

The narrator is fine enough, but he has an annoying habit at the end of sentences or phrases to just simply run out of diction and we are left straining to hear through whispers and mumbles. My hand was constantly on the volume button, toggling up and down. Thought these small stories would be great for the beach. 10 mins into it and had to stop.

Strikingly Sophomoric - but Distracting

You really need to be prepared to set aside logic to enjoy these stories. Character relationships are bizarre, motivations are nonsensical, and the elements of crimes are Nancy Drew-level complicated at best. I kept waiting for the villains to say "I would have gotten away with it but for these meddling kids". The storytelling is dreadfully superficial - hurried - as if written with an eye on the next commercial break.
At the same time, the tandem writing paradigm of Neil Richards (in the UK) and Matthew Costello (in the US) works. They apparently work very well together - the stories are seamless - I can't tell which author is contributing which. Their descriptions are adequately vivid and there are hints of very interesting character backgrounds - these are decent authors. A longer exploration could yield far better results.. but these are deliberately designed as bite-sized diversions. They read like screenplays from an average-quality BBC version of 'Matlock'.

Niel Dudgeon is a pleasantly surprising performer - given the working material, he is very good. His American accent is dreadful, but pacing and timbre are spot-on. I would listen to more from him.

A lot of reviews have commented on volume variances (Dudgeon nearly whispering some lines). The sound engineers may have fixed that - I didn’t notice any problems. The audiobook is noticeably overproduced, however. The quasi-Mancini theme music is somewhat jarring and laughably overdramatic.

Altogether, these stories would be pleasant background listening for an afternoon gardening or a rush-hour drive home. Don't buy if you're looking for cracking good, mature mysteries, but if you want unchallenging TV-quality tales..you could do worse. I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to enjoy these as intended. You might be able to.

"Cosy" mysteries aren't for me, I guess. I have to rate this presentation 3.5/10 stars.
