À propos de cet audio
Kevin Kwan, bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires, and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia's most eligible bachelor, discovers her birthfather.
On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birthfather, a man she never knew, won't be able to walk her down the aisle. Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined. Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father. Meanwhile, Singapore's It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband.
A romp through Asia's most exclusive clubs, auction houses, and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters, and offering an inside glimpse at what it's like to be gloriously, crazily, China-rich.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“Kevin Kwan’s brand of giddy wealth porn arrived in 2013 with Crazy Rich Asians, not a moment too soon… China Rich Girlfriend [is] the second volume in what has been projected as a gossipy, good-humored trilogy that will follow the richest old families of Singapore, Hong Kong and a few from mainland China. They join in a single shared pursuit: watching in horror as their youngest generations squander money in ways so staggering that Western show-offs look like pikers by comparison… Mr. Kwan has good aim with his fashion world- and ego-skewering shivs. And regardless of how reality-based these characters may be, he has his style references down cold… [Keeps] readers surprised and inquisitive… Snarky… Wicked… Funny.” –Janet Maslin, The New York Times
“As the real China rich dig their nails into the world of the wealthy and wasteful, Kwan sharpens his with another acerbic yet affectionate examination of Asian uber-elite social mores, still largely invisible in Western popular culture… The novel is filled with jaw-dropping accounts of opulence… and showdowns worthy of an episode of Gossip Girl.… China Rich Girlfriend is a crazy parade through the lives of the aspirational elite. It's also a rich portrait of Asia's real obsession with consumerism and its economic rise, one whose trajectory, like Kwan's, is not yet complete.” —Nicole Lee, Los Angeles Times
“In this year’s best beach reading, Jane Austen meets Singapore… There’s no timely cocktail I’d rather recommend than China Rich Girlfriend… As frothy as the egg whites on the sort of cocktail you should drink while reading Kwan’s books. But if you need to assuage your guilt about summer reading with a little intellectual patina, Kwan has you covered too; His peek into this rarified world is spiked with tart observations about old and new money, the nuances of racism and the way they all interact… A cheeky reminder that those who think they can’t make a romance or a comedy of manners work in an entirely non-white setting are not just lying or kidding themselves, but wasting the almost gluttonous opportunities available to storytellers who stretch beyond convention… Fizzy, highly entertaining.” –Alyssa Rosenberg, The Washington Post

Narrator isn’t great
I loved the first book and narrator so I was unpleasantly surprised by the change for the second book. “Relearning” all the characters is the worst, but why oh why does she drop an Australian accent on the English speaking characters? Both Rachel and Nick who speak different dialects of English, it throws me off so badly. Lynn Chen’s characters were much more discernible and accurate. I also found the first few chapters hard to get into at all, I don’t know if it’s the story or the abrupt switch in narrator. I’m seeing this story through to the end regardless but I’m definitely disappointed.

light yet enthralling entertainment!
The narrator alone makes me recommend the audiobooks over reading it. Another great installment from Kevin Kwan, can't wait to experience the film version!

Middle child of the trilogy
Middle book and "middle child" of the trilogy - it has some high and low points but is a very entertaining listen. This book introduces us more to a circle of characters and their quirky lives so far removed from any semblance of normal - so consumed with appearances. I loved the entire listen - highs and lows and all.

decent, lacks predictability
The story line was decent. It was filled with very predictable drama and nothing was all that "wow".
First book in the series was better as it truly gave a taste to the rich Asians.
This book played Rachel almost with a hint of "I want what the rich has" aura.
In addition, very cliche occurences. I don't know if that was the intent.
However, there were some very interesting and funny moments though that would be worth reading/listening to.

Not as good as the first but not bad
I feel like this book takes awhile to get to get you hooked. The first book doesn't take as long to draw you in, partly because you don't know what to expect, where as this book you already know some of the ridiculous stuff the rich people do. Another thing that I didn't like was that a lot of characters from the previous novel were mentioned once or twice in an attempt to bring you in and then never mentioned again or only mentioned in passing as two other characters were talking. If you're only going to use the characters once, then don't bring them in. There is also a lot of jumping back and forth between characters, which eventually does make sense towards the end as story lines are drawn together and are tied up, but I have to admit it frustrated me for the first half as I didn't understand why there was so much flipping and struggled to keep track of all the new characters. I also didn't understand how certain characters met. I won't say which characters to avoid spoilers, but at the end we find out two characters are lovers and I have no idea as to how they met!
That all being said I really enjoyed the book, particularly the last third after a particularly nerve racking event happened (I won't spoil it). I couldn't wait to find out what would happen to all the characters as they were all put through trials and tribulations. I finally understood how so many story lines came together at the end and felt a lot of satisfaction for the ending some of them got. It also may be just me, but I felt that there was a lot of female strength at the end. As someone who is female it was nice to see so many female characters showing so much strength and not needing a wealthy man to solve their problems.

Dissapointed...
I loved the first book in this series, so I decided to read the second book in the Rich series. I read the first book while I was travelling, so maybe I didn't notice it as much, but holy cow... The author gives the MOST unnecessary details to talk about the different characters, and settings in the book. I understand this book is about people with money, but I REALLY don't need to know every single detail of a characters designer outfit... The author gives prices on items and talks about how luxurious and "vintage" things are, but all this did was just give me a bad taste in my mouth! It just sounded like someone who was bragging about how much money they had ALL THE TIME... The story line was kind of dull in this book too, nothing REALLY happened. Can't say I'll be running out to buy the next book in the series if it's as lame as this one. The narrator was great though! I loved how she gave different accents for all the characters, and she flowed really nicely between all of them as well.

good voice acting and accents tho missing types
this is not an easy book to narrate and appreciate the different accents (pretty good Singaporean and Cantonese or HK accents) and voice acting. however I think there are still more nuances with the regional English accents that can be improved uppn. for example, mainland Chinese from Beijing and Shanghai wouldn't speak with a Cantonese or Singaporean accent... etc. since you already nailed the other accents, why not complete the show by providing authentic Beijing and Shanghai English accents? overall good though thank you.
