À propos de cet audio

It is said that when war threatens the world, one individual will be selected by prophecy to lead the Shadow Warriors out of the Land of Mist and reclaim the freedom that has been stolen.

Shanti has grown up under the constant threat of war. Since she helped her people defeat a raiding party by using a special power, she's been a hunted woman. Carrying rare abilities and an uncanny fighting aptitude, Shanti is the only hope of salvation for her people. The problem is, she doesn't believe in her own divinity, and when she flounders, she nearly fails in the duty hanging so heavy on her shoulders.

It seems like any other day when Sanders and his band of misfit boys find a foreign woman clinging to life in the wastelands. Oblivious to the weapon they now have in their possession, they are content to harbor the mysterious woman until she is well enough to continue her journey. But when the war spreads its arms and lands on her borrowed doorstep, Shanti has no choice but to reveal her secrets, plunging her saviors into danger. If they band with her, they will face certain death. But to trade her to Xandre, the warlord desperate to add her to his war machine, would be to give up their entire way of life.

War is coming. The only question is this: Which side do you choose?

Pretty good series

*Don't worry, no spoilers*
This has been a really good series to read/listen to.
Here are some of the things I liked:
- kick ass main character that has some trouble with speaking the language (which I always found hilarious)
- characters are fun and easy to listen to (there's no character that I didn't like)
- overall keeps you on your toes and doesn't follow an easily anticipated plot (aside from the title of the book)

Some things I didn't like:
- the author chose some names that sound really similar, making it difficult to remember who the story is talking about
- the title of the book pretty much tells you all that's going to happen in the story. Yes there's lots of plot twists leading up to the title but the title nonetheless tells you how far in the overall story the book is going to take you.

Chosen is intriguing, witty and intense

A protagonist who is almost precisely her own worst enemy is very difficult to write, but surround her with interesting characters as Breene has, and you have me hooked.

Davies’ rendering of these characters is insightful: she breathes life into every one.

I look forward to listening on.

a good read

I liked this book but some parts were more sexual than was needed for the plot

Good story

Enjoyed the plot. I get why main character was self pitying. But it got annoying a little. The reader was mediocre, I had to turn to 1.2x as it was soooo slow. Much better at 1.2.

Epic Heroine & Legacy Journey

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and character development. I’m eager to start the next book in the series.
My only disappointment is the way in which the story is read, the monotonous tone & expression makes it hard to follow when the story is being narrated versus when a character is speaking. More dimension between the characters voices would help me to identify more quickly with who is speaking & able to visualize the vibe of dialogue.

Not a great audio

Unfortunately I found this audio difficult to listen to... Very monotone for the most part.
I still listened all the way through but it definitely lacked something.

Also I had trouble getting all of the characters straight in my mind something that doesn't normally happen.

book had potential but misses the mark

First of all, the narration is horrible. The narrator makes nearly all the characters sound like they don't have much of a personality, almost like a bunch of Mr Darcys. secondly, the author doesn't spend nearly enough time world building. There are a few snippets here and there, but not nearly enough, and they don't happen until too far into the book. We're not given a good idea of how many nations there are or the larger sociopolitical landscape. The characters don't feel fully fleshed out and I wasn't able to feel drawn in to the characters and their emotions. I still feel like I know nothing about Shanti, what are her interests or hobbies? What was her family like? Her friends? Even when she discusses Romy it's not in much detail. We know he was nice, he sacrificed himself, and had beautiful brown eyes. That's about it. It just feels like the editor should have taken another pass at the book, because it does feel like it has a lot of potential, it's just needs more work.

KF Breene is an incredible world-builder - loved it.

I have yet to find a book by KF Breene that I do not like, so needless to say, this is one of my favorites. It’s surprisingly less spicy than her usual, but that is because the story is epic. It’s the journey of Shanti, who is the chosen one to save her people before the Graygual overrun the continent.

KF Breene is an incredible world-builder. She’s sneaky about it, weaving details in as she guides you through the plot. She’s character driven, so its her characters who help the most to paint the picture of this new fantasy world. It’s in their vibrant personalities, highlighting the differences between people. It’s in the way Shanti learns the slang (and swears) from ‘her boys’. It’s in the vacillation between trust and mistrust of new allies.

I listened to the audiobook. And to be clear, there is a divide between listeners on this topic. You either love it, or you don’t. I, for one, think it is clever. I’m not sure if it is intended or not, but Caitlin Davie’s cadence is exactly how I imagine conversations to go between people who don’t exactly understand each other, of peoples from different cultures learning to work together, and of someone hesitant to take on the enormous destiny set forward for them. There are 6 books in this series, and they are binge-worthy!

I was worried...

At first I had a hard time with the narrator but after a bit I got used to her. The story is good, loved the bits of humor among the serious. Downloading book 2 now!

interesting storyline

the storyline had merit but I struggled to stay focused until about 1/2 way through. The narrator did fairly well except for when the protagonist Shanti had a lengthy dialog. The narrator word speak her voice by adding almost a sing song sort of cadence which I found to be unenjoyable to listen to.
