À propos de cet audio
Zoe Chambers, paramedic and deputy coroner in rural Pennsylvania's tight-knit Vance Township, has been privy to a number of local secrets over the years, some of them her own. But secrets become explosive when a dead body is found in the Township Board president's abandoned car. As a January blizzard rages, Zoe and Police Chief Pete Adams launch a desperate search for the killer, even if it means uncovering secrets that could not only destroy Zoe and Pete but also those closest to them.

Should be trigger warnings
This was a well written book, but it became really disturbing towards the end. Subject matter including pedophilia, rape of underage teen, and suicide should be listed in a trigger warning. I don't want to pollute my mind with these things. Maybe some people enjoy hearing about this subject matter, or they are so desensitized that they don't mind. This is my heads up to anyone who may find this upsetting. At least you are forewarned.

Boring
There is so much to dislike about this audiobook. A bleak and boring story, a sleuth and a detective that do a crap job at solving the crime, a sad attempt at romance, a confusing story with flat characters and an annoying narrator.
I don’t think authors really grasp how a narrator‘s voice can make or break a story.
Maybe it was the voice, but because I couldn’t remember who was who, I wasn’t sure who was killed at first, then after listening further, I didn’t care who the murder victim was. I was hoping this story was going to take off at a certain point and become more interesting, but that never happened. Indeed, there’s only the very stagnant and repetitive narrative of the facts that take place in the beginning; the murder of a beloved community member, fire-fighter Ted Bassi; cherished husband and father. Everyone’s in the community suspects the heartless and autocratic Township Board President and supervisor McBirney, but when he’s also found stabbed, the mystery intensifies, or so you would hope, but it’s more intriguing summarized than it is in the actual book.
I found myself skipping through the book, but as I kept forgetting who was who, I became even more confused and less invested in what was happening in the book. This story could have been told in a more efficient way, but as I said before, the narrative is very repetitive, bordering on tedious.
I didn’t get to know the characters enough to find them likeable, but I did find them all not adept and borderline annoying….maybe it was the narration.
I gave up with 51 minutes left in the book. I thought I may come back and finish it, but it’s been over a month since i stopped and still I have no desire to see it through
