À propos de cet audio
Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon must battle an army of genetically engineered mercenaries to stop a hypersonic missile attack in this explosive new adventure in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
When Cabrillo is hired to extract an undercover operative in Kenya, he finds himself on the trail of a deadly international plot. A Saudi prince seeks to unleash a deadly assault on U.S. forces, sparking a new war in the Middle East and ultimately destroying Israel.
Cabrillo’s crew have met their most fearsome adversaries yet: a force of bio-hacked soldiers endowed with extreme strength and stamina and an unquenchable appetite for violence. The Oregon team must journey from the Amazon rainforest to an abandoned monastery in Eritrea before a final showdown in the mountains of Yemen, using every shred of courage and cunning they can muster to disable the ship-killer missile before the Arabian Sea becomes a mass grave.

When Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala investigate a mass stranding of aquatic life in the Indian Ocean, they accidentally uncover a much deeper mystery. A strange figure soon steals NUMA’s findings, forcing a high-speed chase—someone really didn’t want them examining those dead whales. But who, and why? Poor audio quality
I thought the story was slow and a little incomplete. there were elements that just seemed to not matter much. The Saudi royal family story seemed kind of out of place and too detached from the main plot. the plot itself was similar to typhoon. but different enough that it was not annoyingly repetitive.
Scott Brick's brilliant narration was undermined by extremely poor recording quality. it sounded like he put the microphone in a large bucked and then spoke into the mic. and then cranked up the bass in the recording. it was ear pearcingly horrible to listen to and in order to even get through it I had to mess with the mixing on my audio player. I dont know why they choose to wreck such a masterful performance with this horrible mixing choice.

Trigger warning! Animal abuse
This story involves dogfighting. I honestly blocked out the details so I have few but the implications are clear. Nothing like what Clive Cussler ever wrote…

Not one of his best.
Disjointed plot. Excessive detail elaboration in some areas so the listener lost interest. Not the same calibre as his other books in this series.

Mike Madden is not Clive Cussler
Unlike Jack Du Brul & others who clearly spent a little more time with Cussler, Madden’s writing sometimes got lost in the background story, which slowed the pace to crawl. You read Clancy knowing this and you read a Cussler or Du Brul because the pace is consistent,. The writing here was neither
As always, Scott Brick was excellent, however even his enthusiasm struggled through some of the background story.

A muddled plot and poor recording quality
This review will have spoilers for the book.
First, Mike is not very good at writing the Oregon Files. The way they talk just doesn't fit, and it sounds like Jaun spends too much time on YouTube due to his choice of Soap. Also, goodbye to Jaun's record of never causing collateral damage, Jaun commits a terrorist attack by blowing up half an Iranian harbor, no doubt killing innocent sailors. He also has introduced new members of the crew who seem to do very little and I'll just end up forgetting. The book is also missing it's historical tie in to the villains scheme, but that's made up for by the tie in being to a fan favorite character. As a final insult...Mike...why is there so much allusion to rape...stop it, It's uncomfortable.
Second, this book is all over the place. We are in the Amazon then the Oregon then Iran then India then Saudi Arabia then Ethiopia then Eritrea then Israel following at least four main antagonists with a handful of minor ones. The book jumps around so much in this really convoluted scheme by the villains, on top of that, one of the villains just straight up gets away.
Finally, the audio quality was so wack. My ears hurt, like actually hurt, and that's a shame. Scott Brick is an amazing narrator, but my god that was bad for him.
In my opinion, you can skip this book, nothing critical happens that will confuse you if there is a next one.
