À propos de cet audio
In New York Times-bestselling author Anthony Horowitz’s ingenious fifth literary whodunit in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series, Detective Hawthorne is once again called upon to solve an unsolvable case—a gruesome murder in an idyllic gated community in which suspects abound
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate.
It is the perfect idyll until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, a gaggle of shrieking children and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and they quickly offend every last one of their neighbours.
When Giles Kentworthy is found dead on his own doorstep, a crossbow bolt sticking out of his chest, Detective Hawthorne is the only investigator that can be called on to solve the case.
Because how do you solve a murder when everyone is a suspect?

In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

The best yet.
Immaculately plotted. Richly narrated. Absolutely top notch.
We enjoyed all four prior Hawthorne's but this one is a master class in how to write a mystery. Agatha would applaud.

Disappointing
I found this to be the least engaging book in the Horowitz and Hawthorne series, so far. The prologue was promising but when the story moved into the present day, my interest completely flagged. I found it convoluted and confusing, and I didn't care about the mystery because I lost the plot completely. 'Everyone did it' seemed an appropriate reveal for such a confusing story. If this is a preview of what's to come, I'm not that enthusiastic about the 7 more books the author is under contract to produce in this series.

Boo!
I would usually allow a hard-cover book 3 chapters before I quit. I actually gave this book the opportunity to improve for 7 chapters ... still sucked in my opinion and have quit with an overall review of 2 stars.
windy and dull .... so much detailed description that has nothing to do with the story other than wasting space. Are authors paid by the word I wonder?
This is my first and last book by this author .. put a little more effort in, is my suggestion. Boo
