À propos de cet audio
Unforgettable characters and a fascinating 1920s setting.
It's the end of the roaring twenties, and the exuberant and Honourable Phryne Fisher is dancing and gaming with gay abandon. But she becomes bored with London and the endless round of parties. In search of excitement, she sets her sights on a spot of detective work in Melbourne, Australia. And so mystery and the beautiful Russian dancer, Sasha de Lisse, appear in her life. From then on it's all cocaine and communism until her adventure reaches its steamy end in the Turkish baths of Little Lonsdale Street.

Better than the show
I enjoyed watching the Miss Fischer TV series, so I decided that I should give the books a try. This book is similar to the plot of the show, but better! They tried to condense everything down into one episode so of course a lot was left out.
If you are triggered by drug use, this book may not be for you. As the title implies, cocaine is a major plot of the novel (the protagonist does not partake though).

ok
I've read (or, rather, listened to) the first three books in the series. Pretty sure it was an Audible special. The narrator is excellent, but, and I hate to even think it...
This is one of the rare times when the TV show is better than the book. The tone is different, meaner, maybe? Or just like, harder? But also, and this one in particular, they're pretty smutty. It feels so... 90s suburban housewife cheeky softcore? It didn't do it for me.
The characters were roughly sketched out, even Phryne, but it's first in a series, so I can't be too hard on it for that.
The mystery was ok. Like, it's a light, fun, quick read, just not really for me.

The best book I’ve heard this year
The story is enthralling, entertaining, and very well-written. The narrator is on-point. The only flaw is some odd chapter/track misalignments but that’s just production and doesn’t detract from the book. Absolutely a must-listen, I’ll be downloading the next one!

Great story, terrible narrator
Okay, so I first read ‘Cocaine Blues’ a couple of years ago, so I decided to pick up the audiobook and relive the first installment of the Phryne Fisher series.
In terms of the actual book, the mystery was solid as were the characters; it is difficult not to love the charming cheekiness of Miss Phryne Fisher.
However, despite my enjoyment of the story, I have to admit I almost ditched the audiobook due to a terrible narrator; all I could hear throughout the novel were mouth noises and swallowing every few minutes - it was incredibly offputting. Additionally, I noticed there were multiple moments where the narration just stopped dead which ruined the flow of the story.
Overall, It was a shame that the narration ruined what could have been excellent listen as I did genuinely enjoy the novel. I doubt that I will be purchasing any more of the audiobooks in this series; I will just read the rest on Kindle.
