À propos de cet audio

How Coddling Kids Is Killing Kids' Confidence is about a boxing coach (Donté) who shares tips with parents to help them prepare their child(ren) for adulthood. For over two decades, Donté has helped train THOUSANDS of students to become their best selves through boxing training and has seen mental health concerns increase sharply within the last few years (especially after the COVID-19 pandemic). What Donté has targeted in this book is that mental health concerns were happening WAY before the pandemic was a concern, and what he saw was how parenting was causing much of the mental health crisis. Instead of reacting to the variety of concerns parents were coming to him to help their kids with, he decided to be proactive and write a book to help parents at home to solve some of the root problems.

There are three chapters in this book. In the first chapter, Donté talks about a parenting behavior that he believes is causing a lot of mental health issues with younger generations (e.g., depression, anxiety, etc.) that Donté calls "Butler Parenting." Butler Parenting occurs when parents are uncomfortable witnessing their child being frustrated and respond by quickly attempting to take over their child’s perceived discomfort. When parents demonstrate "Butler Parenting" behavior, it lessens opportunities for their child(ren) to learn how to mature and develop self-efficacy. In Chapter 2, Donté discusses points to help parents be more aware of how they can better lead themselves and be the example they want their children to follow. Chapter 3 is about what parents can do to help their child(ren) become more prepared for adulthood by sharing vital awareness about what they should prepare for BEFORE they start "adulting."
