À propos de cet audio

A CIA officer and his recruit arrive in war-ravaged Damascus to hunt for a killer in this pause resister that offers the "most authentic depiction of modern-day tradecraft in print" (Navy SEAL sniper and New York Times best-selling author Jack Carr).

CIA Case Officer Sam Joseph is dispatched to Paris to recruit Syrian Palace official Mariam Haddad. The two fall into a forbidden relationship, which supercharges Haddad's recruitment and creates unspeakable danger when they enter Damascus to find the man responsible for the disappearance of an American spy.

But the cat-and-mouse chase for the killer soon leads to a trail of high-profile assassinations and the discovery of a dark secret at the heart of the Syrian regime, bringing the pair under the all-seeing eyes of Assad's spy catcher, Ali Hassan, and his brother Rustum, the head of the feared Republican Guard.

Set against the backdrop of a Syria pulsing with fear and rebellion, Damascus Station is a gripping thriller that offers a textured portrayal of espionage, love, loyalty, and betrayal in one of the most difficult CIA assignments on the planet.

CIA potboiler

Very listenable spy genre offering. If you are familiar with the Jason Matthews’ trilogy you will notice similarities. Both men worked for the CIA so the acronyms and tradecraft of the operatives are almost identical. For me Matthews is the better suspense builder and his plots are a bit more exciting than this one. Some of the plot lines here are a bit predictable and stodgy. The narrator is good with the accents overall and does a very passable President Assad impersonation. I would definitely listen to Moscow X and whatever else he writes in this area now that sadly Mr Matthews is no longer with us. No Matthews style end of chapter recipes for McCloskey but he certainly describes food in some detail. What is it about these ex-CIA types and their relationship with food?

Great book, weird performance

Wehrlen gives one of the weirdest, latest reads of an audiobook that I have ever experienced. It takes you out of the book at some time. Super monotone. Pacing, timing, and delivery are weird. The agents and voices are great, but his narration is barely tolerable.

Great book though. Maybe just get the physical version.

Good listen!

I really wanted to love this book. I am fascinated by the region and love good spy novels but this left me wishing for more. Maybe there was a little too much love story and not enough grit? I would recommend it if you like this genre or are interested in Syria or the region, just don't expect it to be amazing.

The narrator makes this impossible to finish

The narrator's tone and cadence are so bizarre and so off that it ruins the entire story. I got five chapters in and can't finish it. This book needs a new narrator ASAP, one who doesn't rely on auto tune to cover up a distractingly sub par performance. What a waste of an audible credit, I'm astonished something this bad is available for purchase on this platform.
