À propos de cet audio

Thirteen-year-old October Schwartz is new in town, short on friends, and the child of a clinically depressed science teacher. Naturally, she spends most of her time in the Sticksville Cemetery, which just happens to border her backyard. And that backyard just happens to be the home of five dead teenagers, each from a different era of the past: There's the dead United Empire Loyalist! The dead escaped slave who made her way north via the Underground Railroad! The dead quintuplet!

Soon October befriends the five dead kids. Together - using October's smarts and the dead kids' abilities to walk through walls and get around undetected and stuff - they form The Dead Kid Detective Agency, committed to solving Sticksville's most mysterious mysteries. October's like Nancy Drew, if she'd hung out with corpses.

When Sticksville Central High School's beloved French teacher dies in a suspicious car accident, it provides the agency with its first bona fide case. Soon October and her five dead friends find themselves in the midst of a nefarious murder plot, thick with car chases, cafeteria fights, sociopathic math teachers, real estate appointments, and a wacky adventure that might uncover the truth about a bomb that exploded almost 40 years ago.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"This book would really appeal to kids who enjoy fantasy, and a twist of the grim. The concept is pretty dark, but the book doesn't go into too much gruesome detail. Even though October's circumstances are not cheery, her high school experiences will be familiar to many kids." ( National Post)

Surprisingly delightful

Interesting concept from the get go, and is simply good. No over complications or try hardness, just a great story with good, flesh diut characters. I honestly didnt know what to expect going into this one and was gripped quickly.

All around great read, looking forward to more!

Read awhile back, still remember I loved it!

Semi tl;dr near the middle-end... not particularly helpful though.

I don't remember all the story's details but I DO remember how much I loved it. I also remember that I absolutely can't wait for the next one and I keep coming back to see if it's yet available. If it takes too long I may just have to relisten. I had a really severe brain injury back in 2018 and although I am unhappy the lasting damage gave me terrible memory and stunted recollection, I am happy that it ONLY gave me a terrible memory and stunted recollection and that it means I don't have to wait as long to re-watch/re-listen/re-read all media I know I will want to consume multiple times! I also don't remember if I pre-ordered the next book already, so I am hoping I succeed in remembering to keep holding onto that one leftover credit I have sitting there in order to get it as soon as it comes out! I even thought another series was this one and excitedly started listening only to be lost (I didn't listen/read the first book in /that/ series) and sad when I realized it wasn't about the protag having grown up and was now a ghost, working at the morgue... Needless to say I was upset confused.

Anyway, if I, a 38 year old mother, who's kid is only a year or two off the protagonist's age, like the story enough to ramble about my past head trauma for a good 15 minutes, to an audience I don't only not know, but will never know if I do know; then you will like it too.

TL;DR

If you were ever the outcast at school, the spooky kid, and/or the one who always got picked last, you will love this book. It's something I feel will always be relatable so long as isolation exists and people think calling someone "weird" is an insult.

It isn't, by the way. Wear your weird like a badge of honour! It makes you unique and it makes you cool despite what all the sheep think. I mean I love sheep, they are just not as fun, hilarious, ridiculous, and wonderful as the fainting goats that fall over when you spook them, and like to climb trees. Ya know?

So if you're an amazing ridiculous fainting goat like me, you'll love this book. If you're not but are a quiet kid, you'll love this book. If you were the "creepy" kid, you'll love this book. If you read or listen to books, you'll probably like this book!

Just stop reading this and go listen to it!

I loved October! She was me aged 14!

The story was great for middle years - school, music and ghosts! I had Robert Smith on my ceiling to look at as I went to sleep every night 😊 I wish I had got the music version of the book

Really enjoyable read!

I am an adult and found this laugh out loud funny at times. It's very clever. Slightly heavy on Canadiana, but it's endearing. Narrator also does a fabulous job and has an easy to listen to voice.
