Interesting

I did enjoy the narration.
As for the storyline, it was different, but I did not connect with the characters.
I thought that the beginning was excellent, but then the development became a bit confusing.
Some of the dialogues, especially the interrogations, felt a bit flat.
The conclusion was good but it came too fast.
Now, this audiobook is marked as unabridged, but I don’t think it is, as I was reading the ebook at the same time. Lots of chapters are missing from the ebook (there are 76 chapters in the ebook). Also, there are some parts that are not in the ebook. One character in the audiobook is named Jack, but Harry in the ebook.
But, to speak frankly, the audiobook worked better in terms of development.
Earlier reviews of the book complained about orthographical errors, but I think in the latest edition those problems were fixed.

PS. The author told me that the audiobook is based on the first edition. My ebook is the 10th anniversary edition.

Passable Procedural Chasing "Reciprocal Murders"

Sean Campbell submits an innovative story with pairs of desperate figures meeting up on the Dark Web and agreeing to conduct killings on each others' behalf. London Police (Scotland Yard) Detective Chief Inspector David Morton and his team are tasked with hunting down the amateur assassins.
We - the audience - are treated to a well-reasoned demonstration of investigative techniques and a capable exploration of the psychological motivations for ostensibly ordinary people convinced to murder complete strangers. The book suffers from a lack of any Mystery elements (we know who committed the crimes and why), but - despite Campbell getting carried away with background/private life characteristics among perpetrators & investigators - I enjoyed it.

..aand then we come to the presentation:

Reader Jonathan Keeble is undeniably professional - demonstrating praiseworthy diction/timbre/cadence, great voice-acting, and pitch-perfect tone.. but Whole Story/QUEST Audio engineers completely drop the ball. Broken-up (staccato) sound segments, poorly-matched re-recorded splicings, and even entire paragraphs deleted reveal an unforgivable lack of attention to product quality. The audiobook suffers from frankly lazy production standards.

Altogether, this recording of 'Dead On Demand' merits 5 stars out of 10. I got it as a free selection from the 'Plus' menu - so I put up with the deficiencies in the sound quality - but paying a Credit for the audiobook would be inexcusable. If you're dead-set on reading the book, stick to a text version (paper or eBook).

ATTN PRODUCERS: This project badly needs a remaster if you're going to keep selling it

Unusual but intriguing

Thought this was not the best book I’ve listened to in a while. It was okay. Got interesting at the start and I was invested then it became a bit confusing.
So many different characters and too many killings to keep right in my brain. It was a bit taxing and I was glad when it all ended nicely.

Good narration however. Thank you Audible Plus.
