Fabulous as expected!!
I wish that the reader/editor had put a small pause when switching between story lines. it sometimes made it hard to know when he was switching and caused some confusion when trying to listen. otherwise though that was nothing in comparison to the amazing story and how fabulous the reader performed in projecting this story into my mind. ever fantastic and so eloquently portrayed are the characters. it is truly a marvel.

Second book listened to & still an awesome book

Steven Erikson delivers yet another good story. He has great character development and takes you from disliking a certain character to liking them, then you find yourself disappointed in some of their actions/decisions. I find myself invested in the world/civilizations he has created. I have already started the next book & have purchase the complete series.

Great Military Fantasy
Erickson continues his story of the Mslazan Empire in the world he and Esselmont created. That world gets richer and richer as he goes. This novel has far more foreshadowing and fits more in the series but still can stand alone as a story. It can get a little confusing - with different timelines and plot threads that make little sense without awareness of events later in the series - but is enjoyable.
Ralph Lister's reading is fantastic, down to nasal voices after a broken nose and muffled voices after a facial injury.
Because of a bit of confusion inherent in introducing disparate story threads, this is a Four star novel. Keep going - it makes more sense after you read other books in the series.

Where is the Captain of the Sappers?
Excellent book and narration, have fun trying to spot the Captain of the Sappers. He is like Waldo x 1000. Mappo was my favorite new character although getting to know Fiddler was just as excellent.

A great story not done justice
The story is incredible, but the reading is barely worth listening to. Lister does a great job of doing voices and accents, but all too often he will read people talking in one tone, and then get to "they said...." which reveals he read it totally wrong. It's like hes reading it for the first time and ballparking characters emotions before they're said. Also, some very weird pronunciations. Still worth a listen, but the narrator for the latter half of the series is much better.

Good, but not perfect
Well read. Plot at a high level is great, but Erikson isn't a great writer, imho. His pacing seems way off, and individual conflicts are rendered irrelevant by the frequency of seemingly insurmountable problems faced by the characters and the equal content solutions, often arriving "by Warren" and at the last minute.

Great book, interesting and original fantasy world
Second book I’ve read by this author. It seems he’s not much for initial character development, but eventually you get them sorted. Great book though. Very imaginative world. After getting through 2 so far I’m very glad he’s written so many ! I look forward to enjoying the rest of them. I also enjoyed the varied and interesting races in the world he’s created.

Guaranteed Enjoyment
I've read this entire series on paperbacks twice over and know the storyline almost by heart but this audible version still gives me awe. These 10 books will not disappoint. Hundreds of hours well spent.
