À propos de cet audio
Judith, Suzie and Becks return in the brilliant second crime novel in the Marlow Murder Club series, from the creator of the hit TV series, Death in Paradise.
It’s been an enjoyable and murder-free time for Judith, Suzie and Becks—AKA the Marlow Murder Club—since the events of last year. The most exciting thing on the horizon is the upcoming wedding of Marlow grandee, Sir Peter Bailey, to his nurse, Jenny Page. Sir Peter is having a party at his grand mansion on the river Thames the day before the wedding, and Judith and Co. are looking forward to a bit of free champagne.
But during the soiree, there’s a crash from inside the house, and when the Marlow Murder Club rush to investigate, they are shocked to find the groom-to-be crushed to death in his study.
The study was locked from the inside, so the police don’t consider the death suspicious. But Judith disagrees. As far as she's concerned, Peter was murdered! And it’s up to the Marlow Murder Club to find the killer before he or she strikes again...

Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan’s friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts. The outbreak of war changed everything. Ten years after the Armistice, in the spring of 1929, Maisie sets out on her own as a private investigator, one who has learned that coincidences are meaningful, and truth elusive.

Histoire
Bestselling mystery writer Lucy Harper's talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring readers. It has also saddled her with dependents, namely her fawning husband Dan. When Dan suddenly goes missing, his disappearance evokes dark memories that take Lucy back more than thirty years—to the day her brother vanished without a trace. That's when Lucy began conjuring stories. The police investigation revealed few confirmed details, so she created tales to fill in the gaps, to explain what happened that day her brother disappeared—and Lucy was the only witness.

A Great Mystery
It's all got a bit rambly, to be honest and I had a very hard time focusing on the story itself. it took me a lot longer to get through this book than most others.

Did not equal the first book in story
Saved by the characters and the narrator but the story fell a bit short of expectations. It looked as though it had been a rush job. Still I would read another if offered.

Sleuths much stupider this time around :-(
After The Marlow Murder Club, I was very excited to read this 2nd book in the series! :-) For the majority of its chapters, Death Comes To Marlow met my expectations :-) Then, it failed them, and failed them spectacularly; the sleuths suddenly became incredibly stupid :-( :-( :-(
While discussing [the case] amongst themselves, each and every one of them managed to forget a SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER of important clues. It’s like Robert Thorogood abandoned his talent and experience, by deciding to write the rest of the book as if he were a very sub-par writer taking the easy way out of sustaining a believable plot!!! Sadly, I’m not surprised that the editors of Death Comes To Marlow missed this massive error. A very experienced editor who’s an instructor in my local university’s Editing Certification program has said that she hadn’t read fiction in years; the lack of editing was just far too frustrating for her. I’ve noticed this lack of editing in many contemporarily-written mystery books, usually at the Copy Editing level, and only occasionally at the higher, Stylistic Editing level. Because I’ve tended to enjoy those books overall, I’ve been content with audibly correcting the book ;-D , and/or griping to my partner ;-) . Robert Thorogood’s Death Comes to Marlow takes the prize of being the first contemporarily-written mystery I’ve read that demonstrated a failure in the Substantive/Structural Editing Level :-( :-( :-( Sigh.

Story absurd,, laboured and tedious
The first in this series was not too bad but this was a train wreck of a book. Flat and often unbelievable characters… unsympathetic, irritating, and impossible to care about … i wish i had not persevered to the end.
Narrator excellent but wasted in this imitation of The Thursday Murder Club
