À propos de cet audio
A conductor succumbs to cyanide at the famed Venice opera house, in the first mystery in the New York Times-bestselling, award-winning series.
During intermission at the famed La Fenice opera house in Venice, Italy, a notoriously difficult and widely disliked German conductor is poisoned—and suspects abound. Guido Brunetti, a native Venetian, sets out to unravel the mystery behind the high-profile murder. To do so, he calls on his knowledge of Venice, its culture, and its dirty politics. Along the way, he finds the crime may have roots going back decades—and that revenge, corruption, and even Italian cuisine may play a role.
“One of the most exquisite and subtle detective series ever.”—The Washington Post
“A brilliant writer . . . an immensely likable police detective who takes every murder to heart.”—The New York Times Book Review

An enclave of environmentalists seems to be the most likely culprit, but soon Bruno uncovers evidence that makes the case infinitely more complicated.

Histoire
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

Even better than reading the book!
During a nasty bout with Covid-19 this winter I took my Audible to bed with me, and tuned into Death at La Fenice. I had read the book previously and enjoyed it, but had forgotten some of the details, particularly about the vivid cast of characters. As I lay in bed fighting sniffles and sneezes my Audible became my go to get-Better accomplice and I was surprised at the luring vividness of descriptions I had missed in my previous reading. Especially loved the range of voice intonations and accents produced by the accomplished actor-reader, and — of course— the story is to die for! Highly recommend.

Not as well written as I’d been led to beleive
I did not enjoy this audiobook. It was predictable, and a bit droll. If audiobooks permitted returns, I’d return it. All audiobooks in my library have ‘not eligible for return’, so either policies have changed or there is a mystery, much more interesting and captivating than this ‘Death at La Fenice’.

Too predictable
My friend highly recommended it but the outcome was so obvious from the beginning that it was hard to remain interested. I enjoyed the added twists along the way, but they were never enough to be convincing that the end could or would be anything more than what it turned out to be.
