À propos de cet audio
This book reveals the parallel "other" narrative of world history to help us make sense of today's world conflicts. Ansary traces the history of the Muslim world from pre-Mohammedan days through 9/11, introducing people, events, empires, legends, and religious disputes, both in terms of what happened and how it was understood and interpreted.

Excellent history of the Islamic world.
Written from the Islamic perspective, yet remains objective. Just like history should be done. One of my favorite audio books to date.

A much needed introduction to Muslim Historiography
Destiny Disrupted is a refreshing, expansive counterpoint to western, orientalist historical narratives of Islam. Tamim takes the long view of the deep entanglement of religion, politics, and socioeconomics across the history of muslim nations and their relation with the rest of the world
Make no mistake: Destiny Disrupted is a popular history book, meaning it is relentlessly accessible and sweepingly broad, but lacking in specifics. And mile wide and an meter deep, as the saying goes. It succeeds as a great, eyeopening introduction into a subject, and more importantly a Religion, that is all to often often mischaracterized in modern public discourse. That said, this book is by no means that only one you should read about Islamic geopolitics. The author says so himself in the book’s opening.
Tamim’s voice permeates every facet of this book. That he narrates it himself only augments the fact that this is very much his perspective on an incredibly dense and complicated topic. This allows his own insights to come through more strongly. He makes no pretension at objectivity, because that is not is goal. Tamim is laser focused on teaching those more familiar with a Eurocentric view of history a new way of understanding the world. And in that pursuit, he succeeds with leaps and bounds.
For those interested in diving deeper into the subject, I would recommend Al-Jabarti’s Napoleon in Egypt. If you are interested in digging further into the frictions Tamim emphasizes, I would advise looking into Edward Said’s Orientalism.
