À propos de cet audio
A serious biblical and philosophical investigation of theological determinism: the idea that everything that happens has already been decided by God, including who will and won’t be saved.
This audiobook is for those who are interested in, or troubled by, questions about God's sovereignty and human freedom and responsibility. Christian apologist John Lennox writes in the spirit of helping people understand the biblical treatment of these concepts.
In this mind-bending review of the topics of theological determinism, predestination, election, and foreknowledge, Lennox:
- Defines the problem, considering the concept of freedom, the different kinds of determinism, and the moral issues these pose.
- Explores the range of theological opinion and unpacks what the Bible—especially the gospels and Paul's letter to the Romans—teaches about human and sovereign will.
- Addresses the question of Christian assurance: how can I know if I have salvation?
This nuanced and detailed study challenges some of the widely held assumptions about theological determinism and brings a fresh perspective to the debate.
This audiobook is for anyone who's asked questions like:
- Is my decision to believe or disbelieve in Jesus actually my decision?
- Is it possible for a genuine believer to lose their salvation?
- How much free will do I really have?
By the author of Seven Days that Divide the World and 2084: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity, Determined to Believe? will launch your consciousness into a fresh understanding and appreciation of this important Christian debate and help you think both biblically and logically about the human condition.

Abraham is unquestionably one of the most outstanding and influential figures in world history. He had no political or military achievements, and he left no literary remains, yet today billions of people claim him as their spiritual father. Throughout the Bible, Abraham is seen as a pivotal figure in God's plan of salvation. In this richly detailed account of his life and times, John Lennox helps us to see through mists of the past to the real flesh-and-blood man, with all his strengths and weaknesses, to better appreciate all that Abraham stands for as a model of faith today.

Atheism is on the march in the western world, and its enemy is God. And if religion is the problem with the world, their answer is simple: Get rid of it. But are things really so straightforward? Tackling the likes of Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett head on, John Lennox highlights the fallacies in the their approach, arguing that their irrational and unscientific methodology leaves them guilty of the same obstinate foolishness of which they accuse dogmatic religious folks.

An inspiring new perspective on the science versus religion debate. Can science explain everything? Many people think so. Science, and the technologies it has spawned, has delivered so much to the world: Clean water; more food; better healthcare; longer life. And we live in a time of rapid scientific progress that holds enormous promise for many of the problems we face as humankind. So much so, in fact, that many see no need or use for religion and belief systems that offer us answers to the mysteries of our universe. Science has explained it, they assume. Religion is redundant.

The world of work is expanding. New technologies, industries and means of meeting apart–and–still–together, have presided in the transition of the workplace into a fast, digital and busier–than–ever era. In whichever sector you care to name, work is increasing exponentially, for reducing rewards and benefits. It is more than easy to complain, drag one’s feet while getting out of the door, and face daily tasks with an apathetic attitude. A Good Return does not provide maxims to get you through the day.

Daniel's story is one of extraordinary faith in God lived out at the pinnacle of executive power. It tells of four teenage friends, born in the tiny state of Judah about 26 centuries ago, but captured by Nebuchadnezzar, emperor of Babylon. Daniel describes how they eventually rose to the top echelons of administration. Daniel and his friends did not simply maintain their private devotion to God; they maintained a high-profile witness in a pluralistic society antagonistic to their faith.

Absolutely fantastic
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am grateful to have learned more about determinism and why it is inconsistent with scripture. I have to say, John Lennox is a seriously impressive writer!

Mandatory Read For EVERY Christian & Pastor!
This book is by far one of the greatest pieces of literature aside from the Bible I have ever read. I say this because the amalgamation of thoughts and ideas presented from various people and authors positions the theological standpoint of determinism in the utter wastelands of human thought. Like banishing Sauron to Modor by the white counsel, this book indeed banishes the notion of Determinism with such tact and clarity that I strongly recommend this book to anyone out there.
John Lennox is a great mind indeed, probably one of the most underrated minds of our day, fighting the good fight!
