À propos de cet audio

In Dhalgren, perhaps one of the most profound and best-selling science fiction novels of all time, Samuel R. Delany has produced a novel that rivals the best American fiction of the 1970s.

Bellona is a city at the dead center of the United States. Something has happened there...the population has fled. Madmen and criminals wander the streets. Strange portents appear in the cloud-covered sky. And into this disaster zone comes a young man - a poet, a lover, and an adventurer - known only as the Kid.

Tackling questions of race, gender, and sexuality, Dhalgren is a literary marvel and a groundbreaking work of American magical realism.

I'll be processing the experience of listening to this for many years to come. Its definitely a masterpiece of the modern realist era of fiction, Probably something you would read in a masters class in American Lit. Not for the faint of heart that's forsure.

A serious trip

Despite the story’s age, it is quite modern in regards to its take on sexuality and race. The sci-fi content limited and disappointingly there is not much in the way of explanation of events and items.
The story is mostly about a guy with partial amnesia, possibly schizophrenia, who tries to figure out his mind and purpose in a post apocalyptic city.
My only complaints are the times when the story transits between the present and poems/stories which makes it hard to follow. The whole 15 yo Denny thing is cringy AF otherwise I would have awarded more stars. I read Delaney was a member of NAMBLA 😬

Overall a good story but cringy at times.
