"Just Survive" is a more than acceptable character motivation in a Zombie story. That reduction to the raw instinctual need to live makes intuitive sense in the hypothetical life-or-death scenario posed by a terrifying apocalypse. 'Die Trying' takes full advantage of that convention - loaded with nailbiting spilt-second decisions.. while providing capably-written action & dialogue, clever not-what-they-seem character twists, and a typical (albeit ludicrous) "get to the safe zone" overarching plot that is adequately-executed.
Nicholas Ryan's vision isn't terribly original (don't expect anything new from this book) - but it's sufficiently enjoyable for any fan of the Zombie Horror literary genre.

Fortuitously, Podium Audio enlisted the masterful R.C. Bray to read the book. His spot-on diction; easy to consume (for hours) timbre & cadence; pitch-perfect somber tone; and outstanding voice-acting (including the realistic mumbled portrayal of a character with an abcessed tooth) elevate the book considerably.

Taken altogether, the recording merits a solid 8.5 stars out of 10 (extra points for an exciting climax & ending). I am grateful to have gotten the book as a 'Plus' option..because - despite some clichés and overly-familiar tropes - it would actually rate a Credit for someone looking for a couple of snowy afternoons of distraction.

Story was ok. Action packed for sure. Felt overall story was a little flat. R. C Bray was fantastic as usual. Good for a quick zombie fix but perhaps has potential for a sequel to build out characters and round it out a bit more.

Excellently written, the author does a great job bringing the scenes alive with tons of description. Moments of suspense and of skin crawling terror. Would love to see a sequel.

Not the best zombie fiction by any means, but I had no troubles reaching the end.
If you like zombies and rc bray, I suggest checking out the Mountain Man series by Keith C Blackmore
