Milton Frederick never had the chance to live out his life as a professional gamer on Earth, mainly because he was abducted by aliens. Unfortunately, he wasn’t returned home after the typical probing associated with such things to tell an unbelievable story to his friends. Instead, he was summarily killed, and his consciousness was inserted into a Station Core, a giant metal egg-shaped object that could use technology to create traps, Combat Units, and other defenses to protect not just himself, but those he cared about.

Through many difficult scenarios and by adapting to his new form, Milton was eventually able to escape the planet he crash-landed upon with the help of some new friends. Now, traveling back to Collective space using the ships he had built with the help of his versatile drones, the Station Core’s goal is to fulfill a promise to his personal AI guide, ALANNA, to free the races that had built his Core from the grips of the Heliothropes, a war-like race that had been threatening to overtake them when he was abducted so long ago.

What they find waiting for them when they arrive is not what any of them were expecting.

Dimensional Dungeon Cores is a continuation of the Station Cores, Dungeon Crafting, Dungeon World, and Dungeon Fairy series, though it can be enjoyed without having listened to any of the previous books. This story contains LitRPG and GameLit mechanics, Dungeon Core elements including dungeon construction and defense, and optional stat tables in the form of footnotes. Contains scarce foul language, no harems, and no sexual content.

Great concept, but writing quirks wore me out.

I really wish there was a 4th category to rate for "writing". Overall I enjoyed listening to the story and catching my son up when he'd listen to bits while riding with me places. And I liked that Louise Cooksey stuck around to continue doing Sandra's voice from the series centered on her. Miles did a good job narating the rest, though I wasn't exactly wowed by it, which is fine. A solid naration is preferable to someone who tries to hard and ruins it all. And I REALLY enjoyed how the various other stories were tied and and how it all plays into the eventual resolution of this plot line. (I was not expecting anything in the 5th book). But... the writing. AAAARG....... I knocked a star off of the story and overall for the writing quirks that were getting to me by the end.

There is only so many times I can take yoyo descriptions. "the new thing worked great, but it didn't work great, but it did work great, but at the same time it didnt." immediatly followed by: "the enemies new tactic worked great, however it didn't work great, however it did work great, however it didn't work great, but it still did work great."... There are ways to describe partial sucsess or failure and combat that doesn't bounce back and forth and require 6 additional sentences. By the time I listened to the other connected stories and then made it through this book. These very repetative quirks were really getting to me.

Then things described one way seemed to not stay that way only an hour latter. was something the size of a moon? or bigger than a gas giant? I don't know. it kept changing. Didn't ultimately matter, but it was very distracting when facts changed arbitrarily. Even math wasn't safe. "50% survived, that meant less than half of them lived" ... no. 50% is exactly half. not less than half. it's exactly half. Why say the same thing twice in a row but with contradictory information. Does it make a difference? no. Is it super distracting? yes.

At the end of the day. I'm a fan of dungeon type stories. I loved all the takes on dungeon types and how it was all tied together, and how the big bad enemy was resolved in the 5th book. But I don't see myself listening to most of these stories again.

Amazing cross over series!

I feel bad that I did not read all of the other books that had a cross-over with this series, however, I did not feel I lost anything... However, I think it would bring more characters to life with a better background of where they originated, especially Sandra's dimension. I enjoyed reading this series and a few others from this author! I hope to read more about this universe or be allowed to see what the future brings to Milton's dimension and if the actions he did had any effect. Overall I would recommend it to others even if you are not a fan of stats as the story was really good.

One thing I did feel was the narration could have used an additional narrator as some of the various voices for characters sounded identical, however great work to the narrator Miles Meili for doing the best they could at portraying the various characters.
