À propos de cet audio

Cherry Walker was a devoted, trusting, uncommonly innocent young woman who loved caring for a neighbor's little boy. But when she was asked to testify in court against his abusive mother, Cherry never got the chance. She couldn't lie if her life depended on it - and it did. Cherry's body was found on the side of a Texas road, after being doused with lighter fluid and set aflame.

Attractive, manipulative, and violent, mother of four Kim Cargill had a wealth of dirty secrets she'd do anything to keep hidden. This in-depth account by best-selling investigative journalist M. William Phelps takes you inside Cargill's shocking trial and into the mind of one of the most conniving female psychopaths in recent history.

Well-Told Step-by-Step Exposé

True Crime (Television & Podcast) mainstay M. William Phelps relates the jawdropping story of Texan nurse 'Kim "K.C." Cargill', a self-absorbed manipulative textbook psychopath who silenced/murdered her babysitter.. a subpoenaed witness against her in a child abuse/custody case.
From the initial investigation (examining a found body; surveying Missing Persons reports; identifying the corpse; etc) - to collecting evidence/interviewing witnesses & suspects - to prosecuting in court.. Phelps masterfully leads readers/listeners through an exemplary Criminal Justice System procedural process.
Less fortunately, he jumps all over the place: timeline to timeline and between investigator/suspect/witness backgrounds. You need to pay very close attention between POV shifts just to keep the narrative straight.

As to presentation: Jonathan Yen displays a much better narration performance than in other recordings that I have heard from him. His diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing are typically professional - but his tone is less over-the-top dramatic and his voice-acting is much more realistic. It's an imperfect narration.. but solidly "above-average".

Altogether, this audiobook merits 8 stars out of 10.. one of the better MWP True Crime books. I still maintain that you should spend your Credit elsewhere if Audible asks for one.. but it wouldn't be crazy to invest one here. If you can get 'Don't Tell A Soul' as a 'Plus' option, don't hesitate to download it.

[Note: Phelps continues to display his annoying habit of unnecessarily embedding direct quotes from interviews into sentences.. You don't have to say that "(Narrator's voice) She was (Interviewee's voice) "beating" (Narrator's voice) Kim with a (Interviewee's voice) "Hairbrush"" 🙄 - just say "She was beating Kim with a hairbrush." in either voice. PICK ONE!
..but at least it's somewhat less intrusive in this recording than in others of this author's work]
