À propos de cet audio
Kate, born to abusive, drug addicted parents, identifies an inner God voice when she is very young. This voice, and the support of her grandmother, helps her overcome her circumstances instead of falling victim to them. However, as she grows up she finds that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, and she discovers that she is an addict herself. Deciding not to go down the path her parents went, she rises above her circumstances again and chooses the path of recovery. Now eight years sober she shares how faith helped her continue to take positive action and avoid victimization every step of the way.
"Impossible to put down. Both funny and yet often terrifying, this is a raw, unflinching account of a chaotic and abusive childhood overcome by inner strength and an enduring sense of humor."

Histoire
In this extraordinary work, Beth Macy takes us into the epicenter of a national drama that has unfolded over two decades. From the labs and marketing departments of big pharma to local doctor's offices; wealthy suburbs to distressed small communities in Central Appalachia; from distant cities to once-idyllic farm towns; the spread of opioid addiction follows a tortuous trajectory that illustrates how this crisis has persisted for so long and become so firmly entrenched.

Histoire
That's What Junkies Do is a brutally honest, often dark journey of one man's struggle with alcoholism and drug addiction. The story starts innocently enough in 1980's Brooklyn, NY, with a young boy, Thomas Figlioli, making a bad choice so he could gain the respect of a group of kids he looked up to and admired. Alcohol gives him the courage to be the person he always wanted to be. His fear and insecurity leaves and his lifelong struggle begins. When thoughts of ending it all become a better choice than living how he is, Thomas finally asks for help.

Entertaining!!!
Such a great book! Having the author read it aloud made it even more enjoyable as she used her humorous voice with her reenacting each story. Although the book is sad in a way that the author and her sister had to endure years and years of abuse as children and then teens and adults, the story also made me laugh at times.
I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it as much as I did when it began and I realized each chapter was about a different point in her life and another scenario of growing up but the flow of book and the way she told it made it perfect. I listened for hours at a time. I'm so happy I downloaded this book!
I suggest you give it a try yourself, there's a silver lining at the end of each storm cloud!

A story of a amazing survivor
This book teaches resilience in the face of many unspeakable storms. Kate’s book made me even more grateful to have had a blessed life with loving parents. I weeped many times over. Kate, thank you for your book. It was heart wrenching and I wish you continued success and healing.
