À propos de cet audio
Empress Celene of Orlais rose to the throne of the most powerful nation in Thedas through wisdom, wit, and ruthless manipulation. Now the empire she has guided into an age of enlightenment is threatened from within by imminent war between the templars and the mages, even as rebellion stirs among the downtrodden elves. To save Orlais, Celene must keep her hold on the throne by any means necessary.
Fighting with the legendary skill of the Orlesian Chevaliers, Grand Duke Gaspard has won countless battles for the empire and the empress. But as the Circle fails and chaos looms, Gaspard begins to doubt that Celene's diplomatic approach to Orlais' problems will keep the empire safe. Perhaps it is time for a new leader, one who lives by the tenets of the Chevalier's Code, to make Orlais strong again.
Briala has been Celene's handmaid since the two of them were children, subtly using her position to help improve the lives of elves across Orlais. She is Celene's confidante, spymaster, and lover, but when politics force the empress to choose between the rights of the elves and the Orlesian throne, Briala must decide where her true loyalties lie.

Best book yet! [spoilers in this review]
I find it a little difficult to pay attention to Orlesian politics just because it's boring and nobles never make any sense, so I did have to relisten to some chapters. But this storyline has a lot of worthwhile context for Briala and Celine. I actually regret encouraging Briala to forgive Celine in the game Dragon Age Inquisition.
You also get a lot of context for the ancient elves because the character Felassan who is Briala's mentor and is basically openly an ancient elf. It's just that no one would guess the ancients are still living so he lets people believe he's Dalish. For example, at one point he explains exactly how the ancient elven nobles survived during long periods of sleep and that some can be sustained by the fade itself.
(People describe Solas in DAI as a vampire because it was described that he scarcely eats and is immortal, but I think of him more like Buddha Boy. If you look up Buddha Boy you'd see he was a famous teen from Nepal who went into a meditative state for 10 months straight and his body did not waste away and he did not die of dehydration because he had figured out how to sustain his body in the astral realm which can be achieved through meditation. This entire concept of the fade is taken directly from paganism and the astral realm where spirits dwell.)

My favorite so far!
Amazing! I always worry when men write lesbian relationships, but Briala and Celene feel genuine and not at all male-gazey in their relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed the intrigue of it all. My only complaint was that I could have sworn the narrator said "Danish elves" instead of Dalish and it definitely distracted me a few times. Overall fantastic though!

Best Dragon Age Novel
This is by far my favourite dragon age novel. It gives you insight into Orlesian culture, which is helpful for when you play the 3rd game. Inquisition.

Well written, a complicated love and loss story
The characters are brilliantly written, well fleshed out, and believable. Again, the only real issue is the narrator's pronunciation of certain words and names, but I'm accustomed to that at this point.
