Serviceable Horror Fare

Do not expect anything terribly original in this collection of Ambrose Ibsen short stories. Instead, you will get capably-delivered takes on a few well-known tropes, creepy imagery, and occult-ish tales. Ibsen writes well but has an annoying reticence to embrace violence/gore. The stories are more spooky & atmospheric than scary.

As to presentation: Reader Joe Hempel turns in a praiseworthy narration. There is nothing particularly distinguishing in the performance, but Hempel's delivery demonstrates an understanding of macabre themes that show the appropriateness of the casting on the project (although a few stories feature female protagonists).

Altogether, 'Dreams In Black Static' rates 7 stars out of 10. It's not good enough to warrant a Credit, but an enjoyable way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons for free.
